**Pay Range** : $1,333.33 per credit hour. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience, qualifications, and teaching assignments. This position is Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.
**Work Location** : Determined by course modality: On-campus, online, or hybrid. Remote teaching opportunities may be available under certain conditions.
**Summary**
The Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences (https://apptrkr.com/get\_redirect.php?id=6059164&targetURL=https://johnsonbethel.uccs.edu/) at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs hires Lecturers in Human Physiology and Nutrition for temporary, non-tenure track positions to fill open sections of courses across the curriculum. Appointments are part-time (less than 50% time), usually for only one course/lab section, and made on a semester-by-semester basis depending upon current needs. Examples of courses typically taught by this position include introductory lecture and/or lab sections of anatomy, physiology, nutrition, and exercise science.
**Essential Functions**
The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
+ **Instruction and Course Delivery**
+ Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in anatomy, physiology, and nutrition.
+ Deliver lectures, facilitate discussions, and lead active learning exercises to enhance student engagement.
+ Develop and implement assessments (exams, quizzes, assignments, and projects) to evaluate student learning outcomes.
+ Use evidence-based pedagogical techniques to support diverse learning styles.
+ **Course Preparation and Curriculum Development**
+ Develop and update course materials, including syllabi, lecture content, laboratory exercises, and online learning resources.
+ Align course content with program learning objectives and accreditation standards.
+ Ensure content is current, accurate, and incorporates recent scientific research and advancements.
+ **Student Mentorship and Support**
+ Provide guidance and academic support to students through office hours, email communication, and mentorship.
+ Offer constructive feedback to promote student growth and academic success.
+ Identify students who may need additional support and refer them to appropriate university resources.
+ **Assessment, Evaluation, and Continuous Improvement**
+ Analyze student performance data to refine teaching strategies and course content.
+ Participate in departmental assessments and contribute to programmatic accreditation efforts.
+ Apply innovative teaching methods to enhance student comprehension and retention.
+ **Classroom and Laboratory Management**
+ Ensure a safe and effective learning environment for students in lecture and lab settings.
+ Supervise laboratory activities, ensuring proper use of equipment and adherence to safety protocols.
+ Coordinate with lab personnel and teaching assistants to support student learning experiences.
+ **Collaboration**
+ Work with faculty and staff to ensure course content alignment.
+ **Problem-Solving and Decision-Making**
+ Address student concerns, including grading disputes and academic integrity issues, with fairness and adherence to university policies.
+ Adapt course delivery methods to accommodate unexpected challenges, such as transitioning to hybrid or online learning.
+ Resolve classroom or lab-related issues, including technology failures, student accommodations, and course scheduling conflicts.
+ **Initiative, Discretion, and** **Creativity**
+ Design and implement engaging, interactive, and innovative instructional activities.
+ Incorporate case studies, real-world applications, and research-based teaching strategies.
+ Utilize educational technology and learning management systems (Canvas) to enhance student learning.
**Qualifications**
+ Education:
+ A Master's degree or higher in anatomy, physiology, nutrition, exercise science or closely related area; OR a Master's degree or higher in another field (i.e. education) with at least 18 graduate credit hours in anatomy, physiology, nutrition or exercise science is required.
+ Experience:
+ Previous teaching experience in higher education is preferred.
+ Special Qualifications:
+ Professional certifications (e.g. CSCS, ACSM, RD) are preferred.
**Tentative Search Timeline**
This is an evergreen Lecturer Pool for the Human Physiology and Nutrition Department in the Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences at UCCS. **Applications will be reviewed on a semester-by-semester basis as business needs arise.**

You are not eligible to receive paid vacation leave, medical, or retirement benefits. However, you are eligible to accrue sick leave at 0.034 hours of sick leave per hour worked.
