Experience with/interest curriculum and/or program development Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties: The Department of World Languages and Cultures ( WOLC ) and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences ( CHSS ) seeks applications for a dynamic Lecturer of French. The successful candidate will collaborate with program stakeholders in the ongoing development of SHSU’s robust French program. The required teaching load is eight (8) courses annually and consists of teaching in-person at the SHSU main campus in Huntsville, Texas, as well as occasional online and hybrid modalities in accordance with student needs. Course assignments may include: French instruction from beginning to advanced levels, along with occasional upper-level courses related to candidate’s expertise. Additional duties will include committee assignments, recruitment activities, curriculum development, and community engagement. Other Specifications/Instructions for the Position: A great name in Texas education, Sam Houston State University is located in Huntsville, Texas—70 miles north of downtown Houston. SHSU offers over 80 bachelor’s degree programs, more than 50 master’s degree programs, and six doctoral programs, including nationally-recognized programs in Business, Fine Arts, Education, Mathematics, and Criminal Justice. Educational Requirements for the Position (Faculty Positions Only): Candidates must have an M.A. in French, French Applied Linguistics, or a related field (must have a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in French with native or near-native fluency). Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of French applied linguistics, second/foreign language pedagogy, or second language acquisition. Experience Required for the Position (Faculty Positions Only): Documented history of teaching excellence in college-level French and related topics. Knowledge of best practices in French language pedagogy (online/hybrid teaching experience a plus). Exceptional interpersonal and collaborative skills. Demonstrated success working collaboratively with a team. Willingness to participate in and contribute to the goals of the French program
