Applications are invited for a full time, permanent lecturer in Hands and Physical Occupational Therapy in the Department of Occupational Therapy, School ofTherapeutic Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences, at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.
The Department of Occupational Therapy is responsible for the education and training of occupational therapists at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In addition, theDepartment has a strong legacy of leadership, research excellence and contributes significantly to the scientific training of postgraduates in the School of TherapeuticSciences.
The University wishes to appoint a motivated individual, who will be able to contribute to the Department s reputation and endeavors in Teaching and Learning, Research,Service to the academic and professional community, and its income-generating activities.
Brief DescriptionResponsibilities:a) Teaching and LearningResponsible for teaching Theory and practice in hand therapy to undergraduate occupational therapy students.Teaching clinical reasoning to undergraduate studentsContribute to the supervision of undergraduate occupational therapy students in the second to fourth year of study during clinical fieldwork on the primary healthcare platform and other community-based settings. Occasionally, supervision in tertiary hospitals may also be required.Contribute to teaching regarding occupational science to postgraduate occupational therapy students.Contribute to the development and the maintaining of standards of the undergraduate Problem Based Learning educational program.Supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.
b) ResearchDevelop a research profile, publish annually and contribute to the departmental research programme. An existing publication record will be advantageous.
c) Administration, Management and Income Generation ActivitiesAdministration of student marks, fieldwork and examination timetables.Set and mark tests and examinations, compile marks and organize and co-ordinate fieldwork blocks.Contribute to the Department s Income Generation Programmes.
d) Professional Development and Service to the Academic and ProfessionalCommunityContribute to the general promotion and development of the department and the profession within the school, university and community.Contribute to department, school, faculty and university meetings.Contribute to the development of the profession of occupational therapy.Develop professional knowledge and skill as an occupational therapy academic and educator and researcher.Develop professional knowledge and skill in the field of hand rehabilitation.
Qualifications and Experience:Current registration with the HPCSA as an occupational therapist in independent practice.Applicants must be in possession of a Master s level qualification, preferably in occupational therapy or health professions education.Sound knowledge of the Model of Creative Ability.A postgraduate qualification in Health Sciences Education would be an advantage.At least three (3) years experience in the field of hand rehabilitation in occupational therapy. Additional experience at a tertiary educational institution is an advantage.Must have a South African driver's license.
