ABOUT OUR ROLES IN AWM PUBLIC LEGAL 
We are looking for an experienced Japan-qualified attorney (bengoshi) based in Tokyo with asset management experience to join our team.  Together with other AWM Legal team members in Tokyo, the candidate will support the continuing growth of the AWM Public business in Japan. 

 

The candidate should have substantive experience advising on legal and regulatory aspects of the asset management business.  Key responsibilities will include working on fund formation, fundraising and structuring of domestic and offshore funds (including alternatives fundraising), advising and negotiating investment management mandates, advising on corporate governance and internal committee procedures, providing high-quality and value-added legal and regulatory advice on all aspects of the business. 

 

The candidate will also work closely with the broader AWM Public Legal team in other parts of Asia Pacific (Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia), and with other AWM lawyers in EMEA and US.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

AWM Public Legal act as internal legal advisors to the AWM Public business in Japan on all matters. Our lawyers are highly valued for their critical judgment on legal, policy, reputational and commercial considerations. AWM Public Legal work closely with business stakeholders (including senior management), Fund Services, Operations, Fund Controllers, Compliance and other professionals supporting the business.AWM Public Legal assist in developing new products and transactional structures by advising on applicable law, assessing legal and regulatory risks, raising and resolving relevant legal and policy issues, coordinating with other functions within Goldman Sachs and acting as liaison with outside counsel and regulatory bodies. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Japan-qualified attorney (bengoshi) with 15 – 20 years PQE.Candidates will need to demonstrate a strong grounding in the Financial Instruments & Exchange Law and the Investment Trust law, as well as the relevant rules and regulations, including SRO rules.Relevant post-qualification experience either with a reputable law firm or as in-house counsel.Strong English language capabilities.
