Summary About the Position: Serve as a Legal Administrative Specialist, utilizing technical expertise and administrative skills to provide exceptional support to attorneys and legal staff, ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the Circuit and/or Field Office. With a strong foundation in legal procedures, software, and systems, able to prepare and manage complex legal documents, maintain accurate records, and provide outstanding customer service to internal and external clients. Responsibilities Analyze administrative problems and develop effective solutions, using data-driven approaches and best practices to inform decision-making. Apply administrative expertise to improve processes and procedures, reducing costs and increasing efficiency. Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including employees, management, and external partners, to ensure that administrative activities are aligned with organizational goals. Provide administrative support to Circuit and/or Field functional offices regarding administrative law and/or military justice. Manage facilities, technology, and/or logistics in support of legal operations. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One-year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service which includes developing and/or maintaining complex spreadsheets and databases to track and manage legal case files, documents, and deadlines, ensuring data accuracy and integrity, and providing critical support to legal teams in managing their caseloads; coordinating and/or facilitating communication between legal teams, clients, and external stakeholders, such as: responding to inquiries, resolving issues, and providing updates on case status; and collaborating with legal professionals to develop and implement process improvements, including streamlining workflows, reducing costs, and enhancing client satisfaction. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Law or Social Work. (Transcripts are required) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. (Transcripts are required) You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Administration and Management Technical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09). Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Federal employees in Hawaii are currently entitled to receive an 8.64% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) in addition to the base salary. This is subject to change. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted.
