LEGAL ASSISTANT

Reports to: Senior Corporate Paralegal
Status: Regular, Full-time, Non-exempt
Location: Colorado Springs, CO
Hourly: $26.57 - $42.51

JOB SUMMARY: The Legal Assistant will play a key role in supporting The Aleut Corporation (Aleut) legal and compliance team, which involves the handling of confidential and sensitive information.  This position requires excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Embrace the mission of Aleut to promote economic, cultural, and social growth for its shareholders. Support business transactional activities, including but not limited to completion and submission of legal forms and other documents.  Provide due diligence support.  Proofread, format, and submit comment letters, demands, and other legal documents.  Provide support in managing Small Business Administration (“SBA”) 8(a) and compliance calendars. Assist the legal and compliance team with discovery, document redaction, and distribution of legal hold letters. Respond to inquiries and requests in a timely and professional manner.   Perform other duties as requested. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES 

Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion and good judgment.  Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.  Strong administrative skills and attention to detail.  Knowledge of general legal and business formats and procedures.  Excellent oral and written communication skills, including thorough knowledge of proper grammar, advanced vocabulary, spelling, editing, and proofreading skills.  Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff.  Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Superior organizational, follow-up, and detail-oriented skills.  Ability to make decisions, solve problems, and exercise sound judgment. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED.  Two (2) years’ experience as a legal assistant or similar role.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Prior experience with an Alaska Native Corporation (ANC), Native American Tribe, or Native Hawaiian Organization (NHO).  Five (5) or more years’ experience as a legal assistant or similar position.  Experience with federal government contracting and/or contract management experience. Ability to obtain notary certification. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
