Legal & Corporate Affairs Summer Internship

This is a unique opportunity to be a part of the company's legal department to gain substantive in-house experience in corporate practice.  This intern will support a variety of areas within the legal department including Corporate Transactions, Litigation and Compliance. To be successful, this individual must proactively and creatively address the needs of various legal teams.

The Legal Intern will have dedicated point person on-site responsible for coordinating their work assignments.  In addition, as Legal Intern, the law student would participate in various training seminars through the Association of Corporate Counsel – including workshops and a pro bono event.

What you’ll do:

Our 8-week summer internship program is designed to further develop your legal skills and provides hands-on experience in corporate practice while working in a dynamic environment. The Legal Internship offers:

“Real work”:  Your work over the summer will allow you to make direct contributions to our mission and company goals. Legal interns will gain experience by:

Assisting in drafting of legal documents

Conducting and participating in internal meetings

Researching legal questions and drafting memoranda

Compiling legal information and referral resources

Identify opportunities for internal process improvements and implement them

Support other special projects or assignments as required

Community: You will have the opportunity for visibility with members of Cigna’s legal department, who will share their knowledge and experiences.

Leader Speaker Series: You and your fellow interns will be exposed to a variety of sessions and presentations given by members of the Cigna community.

Compensation: Earn a highly competitive hourly rate in addition to gaining valuable work experience. 

What you need to do the job:

Ideal candidate will have completed at least 1 year towards Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school by the time the internship begins.

3.0 GPA preferred

Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Proficiency with Microsoft office, especially Microsoft Word and Excel

Proven ability to identify legal and business risks

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities under deadline pressure

Additional Information:

Location: Hybrid in Philadelphia, PA. This role is hybrid which allows some work to be performed at home. We anticipate that our summer interns will be required to be in the office at least 2 days per week, but that is subject to change. The internship is paid and housing assistance is not offered.

Work Authorization: One goal of this internship program is to prepare and identify qualified candidates for roles with Cigna post-graduation. Therefore, this temporary internship is open only to individuals who are eligible for employment in the United States and who would not require visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Schedule: You must be available to work a 40-hour work week for 8 consecutive weeks beginning May 19, 2025. Intern will work during regular business hours.


If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.
