Legal Counsel

Position Summary: The Legal Counsel will be responsible for various legal matters across multiple function groups of the company. This is a great opportunity to join a rising technology company with increasing responsibility. This position reports to the General Counsel.


Essential Functions:

1. Provide commercially-minded and business-sensible legal advice to Mevion employees and management on all corporate and business legal matters domestically and globally.

2. Handle general corporate matters and maintain corporate compliance.

3. Draft and negotiate commercial contracts and other legal agreements with customers, vendors, distributors, partners, advisors, and other parties. Work closely and directly with sales, operations, products, and other internal stakeholders to achieve business- legal fit on commercial arrangements and contracts.

4. Participate in the development of corporate policies, procedures, and programs, and provide continuing counsel and guidance on relevant legal matters.

5. Advise on and maintain corporate policies to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

6. Develop processes and procedures to streamline, maintain, and improve legal and compliance operations.

7. Conduct legal research and analysis of legal issues arising from daily business.

8. Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for individuals and businesses.

9. Advise on and support corporate transactions, including M&A.

10. Provide support on employment law issues to the People Operations department.

11. Manage outside counsel domestically and globally, including budgeting.

12. Manage litigation and/or conduct investigations when needed.

13. Other legal and compliance duties as assigned. Be a strong and adaptable generalist and utility player on the team.


Education, Training, and Experience:

1. Bachelor degree or equivalent, and a J.D. degree from an accredited U.S. law school.

2. Licensed to practice law in Massachusetts.

3. 3+ years of legal practice experience in reputable law firm or in-house positions in two or more of the following practice areas: corporate, commercial transactions & contracts, business, finance, M&A, privacy, IP, and compliance. In-house experience desirable.

4. Litigation experience is a plus.

5. Knowledge of U.S. Federal and State laws; international law experience preferred.

6. Technology / medical device industry experience preferred.

7. Manufacturing industry experience preferred.

8. Privacy and InfoSec experience preferred.

9. Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.

10. Acute business acumen.

11. A hands-on self starter who can work at both strategic and tactical level.

12. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

13. Attention to detail. Dependable and reliable. 

14. Team player with the ability to work collaboratively with all levels of management and across functional boundaries to solve problems. 

15. Ability to multitask and prioritize. Strong judgment with a high sense of urgency. 

16. Proven track record of learning quickly, taking initiative, working proactively, being resourceful and flexible, and taking on additional responsibilities. 

17. Be able to perform at a high level in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.


Physical and Environmental Considerations:

1. Must be able to sit/stand for long periods of time.

2. Required use of standard office equipment including laptop, phone, copier, etc.

3. Typical office environment.

4. Must be able to walk through the factory environment safely.
