Global leader in traditional and next generation fueling technology seeks an experienced commercial attorney to join its North American legal team.  The role will provide contracting, litigation, business operations, and labor and employment support for Matco Tools’ business in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico, along with and the opportunity to work within a larger, global legal team that supports all Vontier operating companies. Although relevant experience is prioritized, this remote generalist role is also open to attorneys without prior in-house legal experience and will provide an opportunity to quickly upskill through direct interaction with sales, procurement, marketing, finance, and people/culture business partners. This role will be the day-to-day lead supporting all of Matco’s legal needs as described below.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

\n

•    GENERAL: Support and advise Matco Tools in a wide variety of areas, including commercial, corporate, litigation & claims, regulatory, labor & employment, compliance, and overall legal risk management; serve as primary legal partner to the Matco business. Counsel will have regular and direct interaction with business management and key executives.
•     COMMERCIAL & CORPORATE: Advise on all aspects of commercial relationships, including review, drafting, and negotiation of contracts for the Matco business
•     LABOR & EMPLOYMENT: Advise management and HR colleagues on employment law matters, coordinating with Vontier’s VP & AGC Labor & Employment where appropriate.
•     REGULATORY: Support management in navigating the relevant and fluid regulatory environments that apply to Matco’s business activities, including legal oversight for its franchising business and lending business.
•     COMPLIANCE & RISK MANAGEMENT: Support Vontier’s Compliance department and Risk Management department in the execution of compliance and risk management programs for Matco.
•     LITIGATION & CLAIMS: Oversee and advise management on the status of litigation, claims, and other significant legal matters; develop and drive litigation strategy for Matco litigation matters; assist Finance in setting appropriate reserves for legal matters.
•     TRAINING & EDUCATION: Provide training and updates to business partners in areas such as franchising, lending, legal escalation, contract review & management, litigation best practices, labor & employment, and antitrust principles.
•     OUTSIDE COUNSEL: Manage outside counsel and work with Legal Team colleagues to control legal spend.
•     OTHER: Familiarize and use the continuous improvement tools embodied in the Vontier Business System.  Assist the VP Group General Counsel as requested on other legal matters and projects.  Role reports to the VP Group General Counsel.

WHO YOU ARE

•    5+ years legal experience 
•    Preferred experience in AmLaw200 law firm and/or in-house legal department.
•    Willingness to learn details of a well-established business.

Preferred qualifications
•    Prefer experience within a sophisticated legal team, either at AmLaw200 law firm or global company.
•    Experience drafting, negotiating, and managing complex agreements.
•    Experience advocating directly on behalf of client to resolve disputes, accomplish strategic partnerships, and complete critical sales/procurement transactions.
•    Experience managing direct reports.
•    Demonstrable capability to be a subject matter expert in a field or product category.
•    Aptitude and passion for legal technology.
•    Ability to sync work hours to US-Eastern time-zone.
Qualifications that would be a plus
•    Experience within the automotive industry or franchising businesses.
•    Generalist experience in managing a wide range of legal issues.
•    Prior experience within highly regulated industries.
