Legal Counsel

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Legal Counsel to join our team in the financial industry. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive legal support, ensuring that the company complies with relevant laws and regulations while minimizing legal risks. You will work closely with various departments, including compliance, risk management, and senior management, to advise on a wide range of legal matters, including corporate governance, contracts, financial regulations, and dispute resolution. The Legal Counsel will be responsible for drafting and reviewing legal documents, offering strategic legal advice on business operations, and representing the company in legal proceedings, as needed. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in financial laws and regulations to help shape the company’s legal strategy and mitigate potential risks in an evolving regulatory landscape.

To be successful as a Legal Counsel, you should have experience with:

Financial services litigation or investigationsIn-depth understanding of SEC and FINRA regulationsFamiliarity with depositions and interviews

This role is located in New York, New York

Minimum Salary: 317,500

Maximum Salary: 360,666

Purpose of the role

To advise on and manage litigation, investigation & enforcement proceedings and ensure that these are conducted in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. 

Accountabilities

Development and implementation of best practice legal strategies for managing litigation, investigations and enforcement including the management of external support.Legal advice and support to the bank on contentious legal matters.Representation of the bank in legal proceedings such as litigation, arbitration, and regulatory investigations.Creation and review of legal documents relevant to cases, and processes, policies and procedures designed to reduce legal and regulatory risk across the bank.Legal research and analysis to stay up to date on changes in laws, rules and regulations that may impact the bank's litigation, investigations, and enforcement activities.Developing and delivering training programmes to educate employees on legal and regulatory requirements related to and/or arising from litigation, investigations, and enforcement proceedings.Proactively identifying, communicating, and providing legal advice on applicable laws, rules and regulations (LRRs). Keeping up to date with regards to changes to LRRs in the relevant coverage area. Ensuring that LRRs are effectively allocated to, and adequately reflected within, the relevant policies, standards and controls.
