The Department of Energy Resources’ (DOER) mission is to create a clean, affordable, resilient, and equitable energy future for all in the Commonwealth. Job Description

DOER is seeking a Legal Intern for the winter and spring of 2025 to gain practical experience and assist in providing legal services, research, and support to DOER staff on local clean energy siting and permitting processes. The Legal Intern will report and work within the Legal Division at DOER and directly support the work of our newly formed Clean Energy Siting Permitting Division. The Clean Energy Siting Permitting Division technical support and assistance to local governments, project proponents, and other stakeholders to support the siting and permitting the small clean energy infrastructure critical to the Commonwealth’s efforts to combat climate change and meet mandated emissions reductions. Through research and other duties, the Legal Intern will play a critical role in assisting the Department the development of rules and regulations for municipalities in the Commonwealth.

Strong organizational skills, writing skills, and written and verbal communication skillsStrong interpersonal skills, ability to maintain effective working relationshipsDemonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, and collaborate with colleagues to accomplish assigned work objectives to meet a deadlineAbility to read and comprehend statutes and regulationsAbility to conduct independent researchInterest in gaining legal experience in energy and public administration lawIndependent judgment in decision-making and ability to draft and support legal analysis

Other Information

Hours per Week: Part time – 15-20 hours per weekLocation: Hybrid – required to be at the Boston office at lease 1 day per weekHourly Wage: Contracted Student Internship compensation up to $23/hour for College Undergraduate Students and up to $35/hour for Graduate StudentsInternship Duration: February/March through June
