Meijer offers an 11-week internship program that challenges interns to deliver innovative solutions to real projects that impact the business. Throughout the course of the internship experience, we deliver diverse personal and professional development opportunities that further develop skillsets that can be implemented both during and after the program. The internship program will allow for interaction with other interns and Meijer senior leaders.

Our Legal Intern will support the Meijer in-house attorneys in fulfilling this mission.
The intern will learn from a variety of practical, real-world in-house counsel experiences including the following:
Opportunity to support attorneys in the commercial transaction practice group in various ways, including work on developing contract clauses and clause library for inclusion into a developing contract lifecycle management system. Conduct legal research and draft memorandaReview and analyze caselaw, statutes and guidelinesAttend and participate in internal meetings and provide input on various Meijer initiativesAssist with special projectsLearn about contemporary retail business strategy and tactics, as well as the complexities of providing risk-tolerant legal advice in a fast-paced environmentThe intern may also get exposure to other activities of the function, including:

First-year JD candidate currently enrolled in an accredited U.S. law schoolAvailable to work hybrid schedule at Meijer corporate office (in person Monday to Wednesday with the option of remote work on Thursday and Friday)Excellent legal writing and research skillsIndependent thinker, with strong critical reasoning and problem-solving skillsSelf-starter, able to manage ambiguity and possessing courage to try new thingsCapable of building new relationships and possessing emotional intelligenceComfort in a corporate environment, including among senior business executivesDedicated to exceeding customer expectationsA passion to competeExcellent communication skillsMicrosoft Office experience, with the flexibility and desire to learn additional technology skills for using varied systems and tools
