At Encore Fiduciary, we strive to be best-in-class underwriters in professional and management liability insurance niches in which we have demonstrated expertise and expertise.  We earn our business by providing value to broker partners and policyholders with management liability expertise, thought leadership and risk management for our client.  As a legal research assistant, you will play a critical role in growing our business by supporting our leading thought leadership and advocacy for our plan sponsor policyholders.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will perform three functions for the company:  (1) legal research to track case developments in ERISA class action litigation and related management liability litigation to support our FID Guru Blog and thought leadership; (2) draft endorsements and policy language to our support our underwriting team; and (3) handle management liability claims as instructed by the Chief Claims Officer.

Key Responsibilities

Performs complex legal and non-legal research for Encore’s thought leadership and Fid Guru Blog

Drafts policy endorsement and language for management and professional liability policies

Maintains current knowledge and proficiency in the use of legal and non-legal computer information retrieval systems

Exercises independent judgment and discretion in the selection of information sources, research methods and document delivery options when responding to reference and research questions

Provides ready reference services at regularly assigned hours and as needed

Creates targeted, custom current awareness and litigation alerts as requested

Managing and adjusting claims pertaining to E&O Professional Liability and ensuring a high level of customer service and technical claim file quality

Thorough and accurate legal research materials to support legal cases and projects.

Comprehensive understanding of relevant legal topics and laws.

Well-organized and concise summaries of legal research findings.

Effective collaboration and support to attorneys and legal staff.

Timely delivery of legal research to meet project deadlines.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have two to five years of research experience in a law firm environment or insurance company claims department

Must have knowledge of legal bibliography, legal research and computer assisted legal research

Must have advanced knowledge of Westlaw, Lexis, Bloomberg Law and other computer assisted research tools

Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

Results oriented and efficient in delivering high-quality work

Self-motivated and well-organized.

Creative thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving

Highly responsible and reliable.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Demonstrates a high degree of integrity and discretion in handling sensitive legal information.

Strong knowledge and understanding of legal processes, procedures and regulations

Proficiency in using legal research tools and databases.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines

Disclosure required under applicable state or municipality regulations: The expected salary range for this position is $90,000 to $175,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope and level.
