Applied Professional Engineering Programme Degree Apprenticeship

Our Level 6 Applied Professional Engineering Programme Degree Apprenticeship is aimed at those with a passion for learning and innovation.

We’re reimagining the future of automotive, refining the quality of our combustion engines and expanding into electrification. As an Applied Professional Engineering Degree Apprentice, you will become a multi-disciplinary engineer, developing digital technology solutions for modern luxury vehicles that are renowned for their desirability and performance.

The Level 6 Applied Professional Engineering Degree apprenticeship programme takes four years to complete and adheres to the Institute for Apprenticeships & Technical Education (IfATE) Control Systems Engineer (Degree) standard. For more details, please visit the IfATE apprenticeship standard webpage:

https://www.instituteforapprenticeships.org/apprenticeship-standards/st0023-v1-1

As an apprentice, you will develop the Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours (KSBs) outlined in the apprenticeship standard. These will be assessed during your End Point Assessment (EPA), where you will demonstrate the competencies and skills you’ve gained throughout the programme.

Control Technical Support pathway

Control Technical Support Engineers are responsible for the design, installation and commissioning of the buildings and assembly facilities that we use to manufacture future products. Your skillset will ensure that breakdowns are minimised, and issues are rapidly and permanently resolved.

Notably, you will focus on control processes that use sensors as an input while testing, planning, installing, monitoring and maintaining control systems as required. You will also ensure that all instruments used within the engineering labs are calibrated. This is a vital workstream due to the increased quantity of rigs to be installed in the next five years in the engineering labs.

WHAT TO EXPECT

During your apprenticeship, you’ll gain valuable hands-on experience and career-building skills while working at the forefront of the automotive industry. This exciting programme is designed to help you build practical skills, deepen your foundational knowledge, and develop essential business behaviours such as teamwork and problem-solving. And you’ll be supported by a JLR early careers cohort leader, the university team, and your line manager every step of the way.

You’ll achieve a BEng (Hons) in Applied Professional Engineering developed in conjunction with the University of Warwick. For more details on the degree course, please visit: https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/wmg/study/degree-apprenticeships/applied-professional-engineeringhttps://warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/wmg/study/degree-apprenticeships/applied-professional-engineering

Year 1 – 2

This programme is delivered through a combination of online study, face-to-face lectures, independent learning each week. This gives you the chance to apply your learning from University of Warwick to projects in a real-world environment. You’ll study a range of modules designed to build your essential knowledge, skills and behaviours, with regular process reviews along to way to ensure you’re getting the support you need from your tutors and line manager.

Years 3-4

In years 3 and 4 you will complete modules related to your chosen specialism – Control Technical Support. In your final year, you’ll complete a work-based project as part of your End Point Assessment (EPA). This is an opportunity for you to use the skills and experience you gained throughout your time on the programme and apply them directly to your role. And when you’ve successfully completed your EPA, you’ll achieve your Level 6 Apprenticeship and taking on new responsibilities and making a meaningful impact within the business.
