Librarian (Hybrid)

Job Description:

Summary: 

The librarian works as a collaborative team member of the Records and Library Services team. The person in this multifaceted role participates in project work and works with two active business processes: library services and the records management program. Records and Library Services supports approximately 1,200 internal clients in the United States and Canada.

Responsibilities include: 

Library reference services including traditional to advanced, complex reference interview 

Providing research or literature reviews as requested for project work 

Providing records management services as requested for project work 

Acquiring print and digital resources directly from publishers, providers, or through indirect means as appropriate to meet client needs 

Reviewing terms and conditions related to content acquisitions and conveying terms, copyright, and directions to clients to access materials 

Original and copy cataloging 

Coordinating physical and digital retrieval of client records requests 

Collaboratively developing and implementing conventions for processing and metadata entry 

Analyzing, classifying, and entering metadata of project records and supporting documents 

Supporting and assisting process improvements as they relate to records management 

Supporting, assisting, and educating clients on records management practices and library services 

Assisting with corporate legal matters as they relate to records management 

Routing virtual and physical journals to internal clients

Troubleshooting access to information resources in aggregate databases as well as solving directly with publishers or vendors

Collaborating with other librarians on copyright review analysis and catalog updates

Conducting catalog maintenance

Contributing to ongoing improvement efforts in a team setting 

 

Minimum qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree in a related field  

Five or more years of related experience working in a special library, public library, academic library, or archive 

Experience with cataloging  

Experience working with an integrated library system (ILS) 

Knowledge of copyright in a business environment 

Ability to navigate state and federal laws related to copyright and records management  

Exceptional organizational skills and expert attention to detail 

Intermediate to advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Office, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat 

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Exceptional customer service and ability to build strong relationships with internal clients

Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

Ability to work independently and often proactively with minimal oversight and supervision

Ability to safely lift and carry 35 pounds

Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future

Possession of a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record 

 

Preferred qualifications: 

Master’s degree in library and information science 

Six or more years of related experience working in a special library, public library, academic library, or archive 

One or more years of copyright experience in a business environment 

One or more years of acquisitions experience 

Experience with digital lifecycle management 

 

A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota, office. 

Compensation:

The anticipated base hourly range for this position is $25 - $30/hour. This position is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Compensation will vary based upon relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance.  Barr has a “no retained earnings” model and distributes all its profit to our employees through our bonus plan and ESOP.
