Florida Division of Blind Services Main Page (https://dbs.fldoe.org/) Office Contact: Alice Radford, HR Liasion (386) 239 -6000 Job Description: This position serves as a Librarian Specialist for the Blind/Visually Impaired in the Division of Blind Services Braille and Talking Book Library, located in Daytona Beach, Florida. The incumbent will demonstrate accountability and support towards the goals of the agency leadership and communicate the same to other employees. This includes support to leadership on all program related actions and activities, and as otherwise directed. The incumbent is expected to model, demonstrate, and guide other employees in the use of the principles of flexibility, adaptability, and approachability - while adhering to applicable laws, rules, policies and procedures. Examples of Work: • Answer and direct incoming calls. • Greet library visitors and ensure they sign in. • Handle inventory of office supplies. • Order office supplies from MFMP(My Florida Marketplace). • Prepare and process Travel in STMS for staff (Statewide Travel Management System). • Provide assistance with administrative duties as needed. • Process daily incoming/outgoing mail. • Attend departmental/library meetings. • Attend training and conferences. • Process/maintain patron applications. • Assist the department with projects and reports. Other Duties/Responsibilities: • Assist customers of the library in the most effective use of the service, always following all safety standards. • Will be required to work with library patrons via telephone, in person and electronic communication. • Utilizes a variety of bibliographic tools including but not limited to the Keystone Library Automation System (KLAS), the Florida Electronic Library, print and online resources from the National Library Service (NLS) of the Library of Congress and print and online resources prepared by the Bureau and network partners across the country. • Assist patrons on how to order books using the Online Public Access Catalog-OPAC. • Research authors and subjects that patrons request. • Call new patrons and conduct an orientation to the library services. • Contact and work with subregional libraries. • Assist in recruiting new patrons. • Keep statistics for NLS reporting (each Reader/Advisor reports monthly on the number of calls, emails, walk-ins they served) This data is reported to NLS annually. • Following up on LEADS. • Process transfers for service. • Attend ongoing training in BARD, NLS and KLAS. • Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: + Strong oral and written communication skills. + Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite. + Possess and model quality and congenial customer service skills. + Employee will use the Keystone Library Automation System (KLAS) extensively in day-to-day work. + Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. + Ability to communicate effectively.
