The University of Delaware Library, Museums and Press (https://library.udel.edu/) invites applications for the position of Library Assistant III to join a close-knit and dedicated team in the Collections Sharing and Delivery unit.
Collections Sharing and Delivery (CSD), a unit within the Collections, Acquisitions, and Resource Sharing Department, works with libraries around the world to borrow and lend research materials. The unit receives and processes over 70,000 interlibrary loan requests annually and also provides a variety of delivery services for users on- and off-campus. The team fulfills over 90% of the requests submitted by University of Delaware researchers with a rapid turnaround time and takes pride in locating and delivering rare and difficult to obtain items.
Reporting to the Coordinator, Collections Sharing and Delivery, this position has primary responsibility for interlibrary loan lending activities and provides secondary support for borrowing materials from other libraries.
Major Responsibilities:
+ Coordinate the lending of library materials from the University of Delaware Library to other institutions. Monitor queues to ensure that turnaround time requirements are being met; r etrieve material from the Library stacks and scan articles ; regular communication and coordination with student assistants, University of Delaware library staff, and staff at borrowing libraries; maintain current awareness of unit policies and procedures to ensure adherence to U.S. copyright law.
+ Verify, search, and submit interlibrary loan borrowing requests from University of Delaware Library users. Communicate with Library users regarding their requests.
+ Pack and process interlibrary loan materials for shipment. Generate customs forms for international Airmail packages
+ Assist library users with inquiries and perform troubleshooting via telephone and email for patrons experiencing difficulty with requesting materials or retrieving electronic documents. Interpret library policies and procedures for users.
+ Provide functional supervision to student assistants in the absence of the unit's student assistant supervisor.
+ Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
+ High school diploma or GED and three to five years of related experience, Bachelor’s degree and one to three years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
+ Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
+ Ability to follow complex instructions, to work independently, and to devise solutions to problems.
+ General understanding of library systems and databases and ability to search those systems effectively.
+ Demonstrated ability to work with complex transactions and to perform detailed and accurate work while dealing with frequent interruptions.
+ Ability to resolve discrepancies and follow up on outstanding activities.
+ Ability to communicate effectively and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
+ Experience in using standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and web-based applications.
+ Demonstrates an understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures , and backgrounds.

Preferred :
+ Previous customer service experience; familiarity with modern foreign language(s); experience working in interlibrary loan.
+ Knowledge of library records in automated library systems and other specialized library databases, and procedures in specific library operations.
Special Requirements :
+ Must be able to lift, with or without assistance, boxes of books and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds, push and pull full book carts weighing up to 250 pounds, and bend and reach to place books and journals on library shelves ranging from 3 to 90 inches high.
