Library Media Specialist

The Library Media Specialist demonstrates the ability to create a learning environment that encourages reading and information technology literacy. The Library Media Specialist leads and models the effective use of the current information media of the day and uses effective techniques in communication and instructional technology to foster active inquiry and collaboration. The Library Media Specialist is able to adapt to and implement educational change initiatives and comply with applicable policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings
+ Establishes and communicates high academic expectations with regard to state and local curriculum objectives
+ Plans, designs, and arranges school library media centers
+ Evaluates, selects, and maintains materials for the general and professional collections
+ Stays current with educational trends, current research, and technological advances
+ Collaborates with curriculum committees, leadership teams, assessment
+ Models for students, teachers, and educational support staff the strategies for locating, accessing, and evaluating information within and outside of the library media center
+ Demonstrates knowledge of educational research, trends, and best practices
+ Communicates and interacts professionally with students, parents, staff, and community
+ Participates in district-wide and building committees related to educational and employment matters, as applicable
+ Adheres to district and Amergis' policies and procedures
Minimum Requirements:
+ Possess a Bachelor’s Degree (Education) or related field.
+ Possess an active State Teaching Certification with an endorsement in Library Media
+ Understanding and experience with curriculum design, planning and instruction
+ Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
+ Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
+ Current CPR if applicable
+ TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
+ Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
+ Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
+ Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
+ Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
+ Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required
+ Computer proficiency required
+ Must be at least 18 years of age
