**Registered Pharmacy Intern**
**Contingent**
**Rotating hours (Days/Afternoons)**
Provides daily pharmacy technical and professional services to inpatients, outpatients and other Health Center departments. Dispenses prescriptions and counsels patients on the correct use of medications. Provides drug information to patients and health care professionals in the Health Center. Responds to routine and emergency requests in a prompt, efficient manner requiring some independent judgment, a good level of technical knowledge and a high degree of accuracy. The consequences of a compounding or drug selection error, if undetected, could result in serious patient injury.
**REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE**
+ Education: Currently enrolled in at least the first professional year of study in an accredited college or school of Pharmacy.
+ Experience: Certification/Licensure: Current State of Michigan License as a Pharmacy Intern
**REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
+ Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations accurately as documented by the successful completion of an internal examination.
+ Ability to stand for long periods of time (at least four and up to eight hours per day) or to walk long distances without difficulty.
+ Basic typing skills. Basic computer skills to do order entry, generate reports, retrieve data and diagnose minor printer problems.
+ Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 100%of the time when processing medication orders including: Cartfill, Outpatient, Inpatient, Order Entry, First Dosing, Intravenous Room Set-up, Intravenous Admixture, and Bulk Manufacturing.
+ Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment when prioritizing work responsibilities.
+ Ability to successfully complete an internal examination covering departmental procedures in all work areas. Ability to successfully complete an Aseptic Technique Testing and Challenge Kit on a regular basis.
+ Interpersonal skills necessary for effective communications with patients, physicians, nurses, and other health care personnel in order to explain prescription use and gather and exchange other medication information.
+ Analytical skills needed to effectively review the appropriateness of medication orders and to respond to drug information questions.
