The 5B team provides outstanding patient care to patients with complex acute and chronic medical conditions, including, but not limited to: CHF, COPD, Pneumonia, Sepsis, and Peritoneal Dialysis. Peritoneal Dialysis is a subspecialty expertise of the unit, which supports the entire hospital. Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) provide care and IV therapy according to UPMC guidelines and state regulations, working under the direction of a Registered Nurse or other licensed UPMC provider. LPNs operate at the top of their license in med/surg/tele or Emergency Department settings.
