Job Description

Renders direct nursing care to assigned patients and carries out other nursing tasks and functions including technical/laboratory procedures. Assists the professional nurse in the provision of nursing care on the clinical unit

Job Responsibility

Assists the registered nurse in provision of nursing care. Gives direct patient care as assigned by the professional nurse. Administers medications and treatments according to policy. Observes, records and reports patients vital signs, symptoms and general condition to appropriate staff member. Prepares for and assists physicians and others with diagnostic procedures and treatments. Assists in patients’ teaching program. Gathers data from patient/family which is used by Registered Nurse in making the initial assessment and developing a nursing care plan. Recognizes emergencies and initiates action. Maintains records relating to patient care Records nursing care given, observations and patients’ responses to nursing interventions on progress notes. Charts medications and treatments administered and patients’ reaction to same. Participates in gathering data on patients upon admission to provide information from which a nursing care plan can be developed. Assists in maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients by keeping the patient’s bedside unit and surroundings clean, safe and noise free as possible. Performs related duties, as required.

Job Qualification

High School Diploma or equivalent, required. Completed accredited Practical Nurse program, required. Licensed as a Practical Nurse in the State of New York Previous related experience preferred.
