**BluePearl** **Pet Hospital is hiring an exceptional Veterinary Technician to join our Surgery Team at our Brooklyn, NY location.** **_*This position is eligible to receive up to a $7,500 sign-on bonus*_** **Pay:** $28.00 - $51.00 / hour **This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool.** **Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.** **We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends. Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum. For example:** + Mon – Fri: 6pm to 8am = $4.50 Shift Differential + Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $8.00 Shift Differential + Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = $4.50 Shift Differential **As a Surgery LVT, you will:** + Perform physical exam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate, and effort. + Understand normal vital and lab parameters and alert the doctor when abnormal. + Perform phlebotomy. + Place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein. + Proficient in medical math. + Check medication calculations and dosages. + Set up appropriate materials for intravenous fluids and administer subcutaneous fluids. + Properly shave and wrap for an IV catheter for medication infusion and surgery site preparation. + Admit Surgery patients and obtain thorough patient histories, including current medications and dosages, response to treatment, side effects, intensity, and duration. + Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values. + Discharge Surgery patients from the hospital, including basic client education such as how to handle patients after discharge, how to administer oral medication at home, reviewing medication side effects and providing post-operative instructions. + Maintain a solid grasp of common veterinary medical terms and abbreviations and can communicate with other veterinary professionals in medical terms. + Address client concerns and answer them appropriately during visits, updates, or after hospitalization while maintaining bedside manner is a must. Quickly and competently facilitates incoming calls. + Understand diagnostic workup protocols (including surgery-specific terminology for each procedure per each hospital’s protocol). + Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoringequipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications. Can operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors. + Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor. + Maintain hospital for day-to-day function and operation (stocking, cleaning, etc.). **Why BluePearl?** + Our passion is pets. Full-time VTS associates receive 12 hours of CE paid each year. Paid CE hours can be carried over year to year up to a maximum of 24 hours.
