The Lieutenant, Investigations position is a sworn peace officer position that reports to the Deputy Chief. This position is responsible for planning and conducting criminal and non-criminal investigations to prevent and/or solve crimes and other incidents by analyzing data, controlling evidence, preparing documentation, making recommendations to justice system authorities, and providing testimony in court. This position also coordinates and acts as the liaison with the local law enforcement community with respect to a variety of investigations. This position engages in direct community policing efforts with students, faculty and staff. This position will have law enforcement supervisory authority over assigned cases. When assigned a case the position may oversee, provide guidance and direction to and supervise all other non-command officers assigned to the case including patrol staff. The position may be assigned to work hours during evenings, nights and weekends as scheduled and perform tasks under the following functional areas: sensitive crimes, special investigations, major crimes, and other investigative areas.
