Stanford University is seeking a Life Science Research Professional 1 in the Department of Urology Lu Lab to perform basic functions and activities involved in defined research projects, and to independently conduct and analyze experiments. The Research Professional will support various projects using spatial multi-omics technologies in the laboratory of Dr. Guolan Lu. Typical experiments will involve tissue collection, tissue sectioning, staining and running spatial multi-omics protocols, antibody conjugation, operating spatial multi-omics systems, cell culture work, mouse handling and dissection. The Research Professional will read the scientific literature and use this knowledge to independently plan, execute and analyze new breakthrough spatial omics protocols, and these results will be communicated with other group members during weekly meetings. Finally, the Research Professional will also be expected to help mentor new trainees in the laboratory and will assist the faculty member (PI) in preparing scientific manuscripts and grant applications.
DUTIES INCLUDE*:
Plan approach to experiments in support of research projects in lab and/or field based on knowledge of scientific theory.Independently conduct experiments; maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.Apply the theories and methods of a life science discipline to interpret and perform analyses of experiment results; offer suggestions regarding modifications to procedures and protocols in collaboration with senior researcher.Review literature on an ongoing basis to remain current with new procedures and apply learnings to related research.Contribute to publication of findings as needed. Participate in the preparation of written documents, including procedures, presentations, and proposals.Help with general lab maintenance as needed; maintain lab stock, manage chemical inventory and safety records, and provide general lab support as needed.Assist with orientation and training of new staff or students on lab procedures or techniques.*- Other duties may also be assigned.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Biophysics, or a related discipline.At least one year of prior laboratory experience.Demonstrated experience in cancer biology, molecular biology, and immunology.Expertise with molecular biology and cellular immunology techniques (e.g., qPCR, Western, NA/RNA/Protein isolation, CRISPR/Cas9).Expertise with histopathology techniques such as tissue sectioning and immunofluorescence staining.Familiarity with microscopy (fluorescence, confocal, optical).Perform experiments with strong attention to detail and documentation.Ability to oversee lab maintenance, inventory, and ordering of supplies.Ability to trouble-shoot lab equipment malfunctions and arrange for service if necessary.Ability to assist with training laboratory staff or students.Strong team player willing to collaborate with other lab mates.Experience in, or able to learn: to draft and maintain IRB, IACUC, and/or laboratory safety protocols; tissue culture of human and mouse cell lines; mouse colony management, husbandry, and care; human and mouse tissue processing; GraphPad Prism, R, and Python.Day to day scheduling flexibility when performing spatial omics experiments.Highly motivated, dedicated, efficient, organized and independent.Possess an aptitude for learning new technologies.Excellent written and oral communication skills.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
