Life Science Technician I

The Program in Epithelial Biology in the Department of Dermatology, Chang Lab, seeks a Life Science Technician 1 (LST-1) to assist with research projects in cancer biology and molecular medicine. The LST-1 will perform cell culture, flow cytometry, and molecular biologic techniques, including RNA synthesis and cleanup, cell isolation and culture procedures, immunofluorescence microscopy, cell sorting, PCR and gene expression analysis, protein purification, protein immunoblots, next generation library preparation and sequencing, and other molecular biology and biochemistry. Minor work in managing mouse colonies and performing mouse experiments will be required. Candidate must be willing to learn new techniques and be capable of working in a team with several post-doctoral fellows and graduate students.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

One year’s employment experience in laboratory work or a combination of equivalent education and relevant work experience/training (e.g., one year of college science).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

At least one year of research experience in molecular biology and cell culture preferred.Experience working with murine animal models preferred.Candidate should possess technical skills and problem-solving abilities generally associated with one year of laboratory experience or one year of college coursework in experimental science.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand.Ability to stand and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.Occasionally lift and handle materials up to 10 poundsRarely carry/pull and/or push up to 20 poundsMust have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.Position may require repetitive motion.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work occurs in a research laboratory environment. Depending on research, may work in the vicinity of animals, chemicals, gasses, or hazardous materials. Expected to follow all safety requirements and procedures including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) if required.

The expected pay range for this position is $32.05 (Step 1) to $38.64 (Step 10) per hour. Placement in the pay range is subject to the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
