About the OpportunityDMI, LLC is seeking a Linux Administrator to join our team.
As a Mid-Level Linux/Platform Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining Linux-based systems for a Department of Defense (DoD) project. Combining your knowledge of RHEL, cloud platforms, Oracle on Linux, and DevSecOps best practices, you will ensure our systems are stable, secure, and performant. Your responsibilities will include end-to-end management of our Linux environment and collaboration with cross-functional teams to support mission-critical applications.
Responsibilities
Platform Engineering & System Administration
Design, deploy, and maintain Linux-based environments with a focus on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), ensuring high availability, scalability, and security.Integrate Oracle products on Linux platforms, including the configuration and tuning of Oracle databases and middleware solutions.Troubleshoot, diagnose, and remediate operating system, application, and network issues in Linux environments, including those with limited or previously undocumented solutions.Implement DevSecOps principles and toolchains (CI/CD pipelines, automation, and security scanning) to streamline application development and deployment.Security & Compliance
Meet DoD 8570 IAT Level III requirements, including ongoing compliance with security policies, regulations, and best practices (e.g., STIGs).Oversee system patching, security monitoring, and vulnerability remediation to protect classified and sensitive data.Collaborate with security teams and stakeholders to ensure the environment meets or exceeds accreditation standards.Cloud Integration & Virtualization
Manage cloud-based Linux deployments, leveraging cloud-specific services and tools to maximize performance and reliability.Plan and perform migrations of on-premise workloads to cloud environments, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal resource utilization.Oversee virtualized environments (e.g., VMware or cloud-based virtualization) to support application deployment, testing, and production.Collaboration & Process Improvement
Coordinate with cross-functional teams—such as engineering, testing, security, and project management—to ensure alignment of technical objectives and deliverables.Document standard operating procedures, architectural designs, and troubleshooting steps to facilitate knowledge sharing and operational consistency.Provide guidance and mentorship to junior administrators and engineers, promoting best practices in Linux administration, DevSecOps, and cloud computing.Monitoring & Performance Tuning
Implement proactive monitoring solutions to identify system bottlenecks and potential failures, ensuring uninterrupted operations.Analyze system logs, performance metrics, and other diagnostic data to optimize resource utilization and reduce downtime.Conduct regular capacity planning, recommending infrastructure enhancements to support future growth. QualificationsEducation and Years of Experience:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).Experience:5+ years of professional experience in Linux system administration or systems engineering.Proven track record of administering RHEL environments, including patching, configuration, and performance tuning.Hands-on experience with Oracle on Linux (e.g., database configuration, troubleshooting, and performance optimization).Working knowledge of DevSecOps toolchains (e.g., GitLab, Harness, Ansible, or similar).Experience with virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware) or cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or similar).Certifications:DoD 8570 IAT Level III compliance (e.g., CASP+, CISSP).RHEL Certification (e.g., Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)).Security Clearance: Must have and be able to maintain a DoD Secret clearance.Skills & Attributes:Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical details to both technical and non-technical audiences.Team-oriented, with a commitment to collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Preferred/Desired
Additional cloud-related certifications (e.g., AWS SysOps, Microsoft Azure Administrator).Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).Familiarity with scripting and automation using Bash, Python, or similar languages.Exposure to Solaris-to-Linux migrations or other cross-platform system migrations.Physical Requirements
