Liquor Department Manager-1890 (Roseville, CA)

JOB DESCRIPTION:
As a primary contact for Safeway customers, the Liquor Manager provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. Liquor Manager is held accountable for the department’s results in providing superior service, increasing sales, improving gain, and containing costs.  Trains, supervises, schedules, and assigns duties to Liquor Clerks.   Follows division guidelines for implementation of merchandising programs.   Changes signs and prices as directed by merchandising.  Inventories floor stock daily.  Orders merchandise for store and checks order for department shrink.   Responsible for maintaining appropriate store inventory. Operates computerized cash register and credit card scanner, totals customer’s liquor purchases, takes payment, makes change and sells small items.  Oversees beer, wine, and liquor area and replaces stock as needed.  Rotates and reworks the stock in cooler for convenience of access and display.  Provides customer service and advises customers on liquor purchases.  Responsible for overall cleanliness of the department.  Follows company tobacco and liquor sales policies.  The position is hourly non-exempt.  The Liquor Manager reports to Store Manager, 1st and 2nd Assistant Manager or Person in Charge.  

JOB DUTIES:
The Liquor Manager is generally responsible for completing the following job duties:  
1.    Provides customer service as defined by the employer within the scope of the position and within company policy.  
2.    Trains, schedules, and supervises Liquor Clerks to ensure optimum staffing patterns are met in the department. 
3.    Speak with customers to resolve problems with sales, dissatisfaction with service or product, or other problems related to the operation of the Liquor Department.
4.    Face shelf to company standards.
5.    Maintain cleanliness of liquor area of the store.
6.    Replace stock in displays.
7.    Perform daily inventory and order necessary product quantities from vendor.
8.    Responsible for accurate inventory procedures to include checking load for shorts and maintaining backroom area.  Maintain all paperwork in files.
9.    Return excessive product to backroom and inventory and complete BRI.
10.    May make signs to indicate price of items on display.
11.    Receives payment for customer purchases and counts back correct change.
12.    Adheres to Federal, State, local laws.  Adheres to safety policies and store rules. Adhere to tobacco and liquor sales policies. 
13.    Other duties as assigned.

1.    Ability to follow company customer service procedures. Demonstrated prior customer service skills or related experience. 
2.    Ability to interact professionally with customers and co-workers.
3.    Must have the ability to read, write and communicate in English.
4.    Ability to understand and follow instructions.
5.    Ability to work independently when necessary.
6.    Ability to professionally handle intoxicated customers.
7.    Knowledge of products, product pricing and store layout.
8.    Ability to make quality decisions and work under minimal supervision.  
9.    Ability to multi task while working under stress and time constraints.
10.    Ability to work varied shifts over a 24 hour operation.
11.     Must meet the minimum requirements to interview and pass interview for
      promotion.
12.     Must meet State law required age to sell alcohol and tobacco.
13.     Reports to work in proper uniform per company policy.

Temperature Extremes: Varies depending on store location also may need to walk into freezers and refrigerators. 
Chemicals: Rarely (mild detergents/glass cleaner/ hand sanitizer).

MACHINES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:
Liquor Manager operates box cutter, pens and pencils, grocery cart, six-wheeled cart, paper, spray bottle, rags, telephone/intercom, cash register, time clock, bailer, trash compactor, hand held order gun, and pallet jack.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Lifting/ Carrying:
Constantly lifts 1-15 lbs. Frequently lifts 16 -25 lbs. Occasionally lifts 26-35 lbs. Rarely lifts over 35 lbs.

Frequently pushing and pulling of six wheeled carts and pallet jacks filled with product.
Reaching:
Occasional knee to shoulder reaching. Rarely overhead or at or above shoulder level reaching.
Standing:   
Constant standing while on job. Must be able to stand in one area on tile and cement for up to five hours with one fifteen-minute break.  Sitting allowed while on breaks.
Walking:
Constant walking while on job. 
Climb/Balance:
Rarely, may use ladder or step stool.  May need to climb stairs to second floor break rooms/offices/restrooms.
Trunk Functions:
Frequent neck rotation, bending/stooping, twisting.  Rarely crouching and squatting. 
Upper Extremity:
Constant handling/grasping of liquor products up to 25 lbs. Frequent repetitive motion. 
Vision: 
Use of peripheral vision and depth perception used to move about store area and avoid contact with carts and customers in aisles.  Near vision is used to operate computer keyboard, view screen, and make correct change.  
Hearing:  
To converse with customers, provide service, answer questions and conduct business.  To receive instruction from other employees and supervisors, to receive information via telephone, intercom or IDL.
Speech:  
To converse with customers, answer questions and conduct business.  To page other employees over intercom, give instructions, and provide Superior Customer Service.
