LITERACY FACILITATOR
TITLE: Literacy Facilitator AREA: Operations PILAR : Educational Pillar REPORTS TO: Educational Coordinator STATUS : o Full time - Hourly o Full time - Salary ü Part Time - Hourly CLASIFICATION (FLSA): o Exempt ü Non-Exempt GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Work with youth and adults, including young adults who are out of school, to improve literacy and strengthen basic skills in interest areas such as academic literacy, digital literacy, functional literacy, family literacy, financial literacy, art literacy, etc. Assist participants in learning or gaining a high level of skills. Prepare and present lessons on various literacy components, assessing participants’ capabilities, and fostering a positive learning environment. Literacy instructors play a vital role in empowering individuals, shaping their minds, and fostering a lifelong love for learning that will help them become literate and actively participate in society. TASKS AND DETAILED WORK ACTIVITIES: + Perform an interests survey (need study) to identify the literacy program area to be implemented in the Club. + Collaborate closely with schools and communities to create a literate environment in the experiences within the Club. + Conduct workshops, meetings, and events related to literacy programs. + Support the club in adapting program components, including specific literacy areas. + Regularly observe, record, demonstrate, and guides in delivering the instructional component of the literacy program. + Support other Club programs. + Monitor participant progress through regular formal and informal assessment. + Develop differentiated lesson plans and/or experience reports organizing the appropriate time, the logical and sequential manner, and specifications for individualized, small group, and/or large group instruction to meet the needs of each participant. + Keep appropriate records of participants’ progress, prepares reports, communicates progress, and performs various non-instructional duties including taking daily attendance, among others. + Organize procedures and routines and manage participants’ engagement in learning through best teaching practice strategies to achieve positive results. + Execute a positive example at all times through actions, inside and outside the club. + Perform any other duties assigned by your supervisor. EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: + 60+ approved credits or a BA in Andragogy, Counseling, Education, or any other related field from an accredited University or Post-Secondary institution. + 2+ years equivalent work experience in the field preferred. + Background in youth education component or prior connection with the community and/or the population being served preferred. + Ability to motivate by maintaining a visible, approachable, and positive outlook in the handling of situations. + Ability to research and abstract relevant educational developments. + Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage time well. + Ability to deliver workshops and trainings. + Education and Training — Knowledge of teaching individuals and groups and measuring of progress. + English Language — Knowledge of the structure and content to comprehend the English language. + Customer and Personal Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. + Active Learning — Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT: + Normal academic environment with some travels to other Club locations throughout Puerto Rico. + Visits to the community. + Availability to engage on evenings and weekends. + Minimal physical effort in a controlled environment is required.
