What you will be doing
The incumbent will help develop and implement litigation strategy for the company’s corporate office, divisions, banners, and pharmacies with a trial-focused approach and partner with the business to identify potential litigation risks and solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for counseling the company on legal risk and representing its interests in all types of litigation, administrative actions, and investigations, as well as responding to subpoenas and government requests for information.
The position will be based in Pleasanton, CA or one of our main regional offices Boise, ID, Dallas, TX, Chicago, IL., or Phoenix, AZ.
Main responsibilities
Support the senior attorneys in significant litigation matters affecting all divisions and business units across the Company Develop, execute, and continuously assess the company’s litigation strategy for matters assigned, including providing thought leadership, strategic direction, and proactive solutions Actively manage outside counsel to effectively represent Albertsons in a cost-efficient manner Respond to third-party subpoenas and government requests for information and documents; manage internal and/or external investigations as needed Coordinate and prepare witnesses for depositions, hearings, and trials Work with the eDiscovery Team on various eDiscovery, document preservation and production matters Work with the Legal Operations Team to proactively and timely manage budgets and billing processes Work collegially and supportively with internal clients and other members of the legal department regarding legal and litigation risks arising from the company’s business Demonstrate strong legal research, writing, and presentation skills
The salary range is $135,800 to $181,800 annually. Starting salary will vary based on criteria such as location, experience, and qualifications. There may be flexibility for exceptional candidates.
Benefits may include, medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay, PTO/Vacation pay/Flexible Time Off, paid holidays (8-9 days annually) bereavement pay and retirement benefits (such as 401(k) eligibility). Associates in this position are also eligible for a quarterly bonus.
What we are searching for
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited U.S. law school Membership in good standing in a state Bar that enables admission to practice as in-house counsel 5+ years relevant litigation experience with a top-tier law firm or in-house. Experience with all aspects of litigation in federal and state courts, including, class actions and multi-district litigation, arguing motions, conducting depositions, large case discovery and document productions, brief writing, pre-trial activities, trials, mediations, and arbitrations Experience counseling business clients on a wide variety of litigation and legal risk issues Experience conducting and advising on investigations, including interactions with federal and state law enforcement and regulatory agencies Excellent analytical, strategic, legal research, writing, negotiation and advocacy skills Strong eDiscovery experience Experience managing legal budgets and outside counsel
Preferred Qualifications
Prior in-house legal experience is a plus. Experience as an Assistant US Attorney or as an attorney with another federal government enforcement agency preferred Experience litigating matters involving antitrust, affirmative recovery strategy, intellectual property, pricing, and/or privacy matters is a plus
