A Yard Operations Manager (YOM) provides a chance to influence with a focus on safety, leadership, excellence, self-motivation, problem-solving and teamwork. You will foster a “safety first” culture through awareness, training, execution and accountability. With safety being Target’s number one priority, you will work diligently with Site teams and the logistics leaders to maintain a safe and healthy work environment for all drivers and team members that enter Target’s yard. You will have responsibility for all yard functions, as well as execution and oversite of the 3PL carriers. Working with a sense of urgency will help ensure that operational plans are executed, and performance is executed safely while partner teams are kept informed and coordinated across functions. Your ability to find root causes to problems will be well supported by an environment of calculated risk and testing. You’ll oversee and support logistics yard operations at distribution centers, servicing a growing base of stores by delivering loads outbound to Target’s supply chain and store network. You’ll collaborate with a diverse group of stakeholders, to include DistributionLeadership, CarrierPartners, Assets Protection, Logistics Leaders, and HQ teams to identify gaps in processes and drive optimization through the development of tools and automation within the yard operation. About you:
Excellent interpersonal, communication, time management, organizational, and presentation skills. Good reasoning, conflict-management, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Change agent with strong credibility and influence while working in cross functional environment. 3+ years of previous supply chain experience. Most facilities operate 24/7 requiring flexible working hours. Experience managing third party service. Experience in transportation load planning, yard management or fleet management is desired. Experience working for a best-in-class, asset based, transportation provider is preferred. Experience leading and influencing a team with common or shared goals, providing direction, and coaching for performance and development. Proven strength in problem solving and advanced data/statistical analysis. Yard Provider Management
As the YOM, you are responsible for overseeing your respective yard service provider. It is essential to establish a good working relationship and hold the carrier accountable in accordance with their standard operating procedures. Tasks in yard provider management may include, but are not limited to:Review yard driver schedules to ensure they meet operational requirements.Review invoice submissions and reports for any outliers (fuel, weekly submission).Routine business review meetings covering a summary of safety, driver staffing/scheduling and capacity, outstanding claims, yard truck status, wins/opportunities, and ensure completion of countermeasures provided. Work with yard provider and maintenance provider to review any process issues on yard. Routine rides around yard with provider, engaging in safety discussion with yard drivers and noting any safety concerns while on the yard.Yard Safety Management
As the YOM you are responsible for all yard functions to ensure they follow safety standards. Tasks may include but are not limited to:Observing and reporting yard safety near misses and ensuring they’re entered in by YCs and the yard provider daily. Conduct daily yard safety audit.Ensure current and new safety standards are deployed and being adhered to.Trailer/Yard Capacity Management
As the YOM you are responsible for yard capacity to ensure trailers are staged appropriately.Ensure weekly route forecast is entered into trailer availability tool and the report is sent out daily by YCs.Review yard space and configure Yard Management System (YMS) to support operations.Team Management/Development/Alignment
Touch base regularly with Yard Coordinators (YC).Attend contribution meetings to review YC team performance. Monthly development status with Senior Logistics Manager (SLM).Weekly calls with YOM peers to ensure alignment on network priorities.Ensure appropriate YC staffing in place.Additional Responsibilities
