Loss Control Specialist I
Overview Develops, coordinates, and presents safety programs to prevent, reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses of Cherokee Nation daily operations. Performs statistical injury risk analysis on incidents to identify loss trends and hazards environments. Conducts site safety inspections of facilities to ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and Federal Accessibility Standards. Designs and presents curriculums to meet the safety training needs of various Cherokee Nation Departments/Programs. Contributes to completion of MOA deliverables for Gaming Commission and insured Tribal entities. Provides a safety presence and technical assistance on construction projects fro CNB/CN in addition to our insured (Housing Authority, Home Health, CEC, Election Commission. Provides technical assistance to community organizations on insurance and safety tissues regarding insured community buildings. Provides awareness level safety information/activities at various tribal and local community events/festivals. Qualifications EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT Associate's degree from 2-year college or technical school; or two years (60 credit hours) coursework from 4-year college or university; or three years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT An additional one (1) year experience in a related field. COMPUTER SKILLS An individual should have knowledge of Database, Design, Human Resources Systems, Internet, Spreadsheet, and Word Processing software, and Order processing systems. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Must have the ability to interpret and apply safety related laws. Must have the ability to write technical reports. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS Employee must not and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG’s Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA’s List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Must be able to travel. Must be able to multi-task. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
