Sugar Farms Co-op is searching for A Lowboy Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of heavy machinery, equipment, and oversized loads using a lowboy trailer. This position requires a skilled and experienced driver who can navigate various terrains, comply with transportation regulations, and ensure the timely delivery of goods. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of load securement, route planning, and vehicle maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
Transportation: Safely transport heavy machinery, equipment, and oversized loads using a lowboy trailer. Load Securement: Properly secure loads to prevent shifting, damage, or accidents during transit. Route Planning: Plan and follow the most efficient and safe routes, taking into account road restrictions, weather conditions, and delivery deadlines. Compliance: Adhere to all federal, state, and local transportation regulations, including obtaining necessary permits for oversized loads. Vehicle Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of the lowboy trailer and tractor to ensure optimal performance and safety. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of deliveries, inspections, maintenance, and any incidents or delays. Communication: Communicate effectively with dispatchers, customers, and other team members to coordinate deliveries and address any issues. Safety: Follow all safety protocols and procedures to minimize the risk of accidents and injuries.Qualifications and Skills
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a commercial driver, with specific experience in operating lowboy trailers. Licenses: Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for operating lowboy trailers. Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of transportation regulations, load securement techniques, and vehicle maintenance. Skills: Strong driving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to plan and execute efficient routes. Physical Ability: Capability to lift heavy objects, perform manual labor, and work in various weather conditions. Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot issues and make quick decisions under pressure. Safety-Conscious: Strong commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols.Work Environment
The work environment for a Lowboy Driver is primarily on the road, with extended periods of driving and occasional loading and unloading of equipment. Drivers may be required to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on delivery schedules. The position may also involve exposure to various weather conditions and the physical demands of securing and transporting heavy loads.
