Loyalty Intern

Essential Function      

Sally Beauty is looking for a qualified and energetic intern to join our Loyalty Strategy & Programs Team. The Intern will be responsible for assigned Loyalty projects during the 10-week program. 

This Intern should be prepared to work cross-functionally, have exceptional organization and communication skills, and be able to work effectively and with detail in a fast-paced environment.  Equally important, the intern should have a strong sense of curiosity and enthusiasm to learn about Loyalty as well as Sally Beauty in general.  A final presentation to senior leadership will be required at the end of the internship. 

The Intern will finish this internship having gained broad experience in various aspects of Loyalty and the wider company.  The Intern will also have gained a strong network of professionals in the loyalty, retail, and health and beauty spaces.

Primary Duties               

Lead the creation and development of a marketing/recurring statement email that Loyalty can send to its members.  Purpose of the email is to increase customer retention.  This project will give the Intern the opportunity to work very closely with the Loyalty, CRM. and Creative Marketing teams. 

Activities for this project include but not limited to:

•              Ideation and brainstorms

•              Analyzing customer preferences and behaviors

•              Competitive and industry assessments

•              Feasibility assessments

•              Creative brief development

Lead the assessment of the Loyalty competitive and industry landscape.  Identify potential gaps where our Loyalty program could improve.  This project will give the Intern the opportunity to work very closely with the Loyalty and CRM teams. 

Activities for this project include but not limited to:

•              External research and assessment of what best-in-class loyalty programs do.

•              External research and assessment of what our competitors do.

•              Assessment of internal stakeholders and existing research.

Assist in the development of a consumer marketing research project.  Work closely with the Loyalty and the Consumer Research teams to develop a survey/research project that we can field to better learn what our customers like about our loyalty program as well as what we should improve.

Additional activities that the Intern can be expected to engage in are:

Shadowing of Loyalty and other team members so that the Intern can learn about Loyalty as well as other parts of the business.

“Meet and greet” opportunities for the Intern to internally network and gain valuable connections.

Being a true part of the Loyalty team to get a solid understanding of what working in Loyalty is like.

Numerous opportunities to interact with the other Interns who will be at Sally Beauty in the summer.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities  

•              Pursuing a Business or Marketing degree

•              Proficient in Microsoft Office, particular in Excel and PowerPoint

Competencies / Attributes     

•              Strong inherent sense of curiosity and desire to learn new things

•              Willingness to “roll up the sleeves” and get into the details of a project

•              Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

•              Great team player who is supportive of team members and also able to voice a disagreement with others when needed in a team-oriented way

•              Ability to understand and break apart complex problems

Working Conditions /Physical Requirements   

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, books, small parts; using a keyboard, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

The position requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as shipment or record boxes. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities such as above-average agility and dexterity.

The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing of tall ladders; lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, crouching or crawling or strenuous physical exertion.
