Responsible for providing nursing care, administering medications, and documenting care in the patient's medical record for a designated group of patients under the direction of the RN. Under the general supervision of the Director and Clinical Manager, responsible for providing nursing care on assigned shift utilizing the nursing process and age specific needs. Employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs specified patient care with a high degree of skill, minimal discomfort to the patient, and minimal supervision. Administers medications, to patients according to hospital policy; administers treatments, prepares for tests and surgery, and assists physicians with procedures and examinations. Ensures the proper segregation and safe disposal of hazardous pharmaceutical waste. After 6 months of experience as a LPN, may administer IV push medications designated in hospital policy after successfully completing a formal 40 hour IV push medication competency training program through Nurse Education or providing certificate of completion of a 40 hour IV Push class. Monitors and discontinues blood and blood products. *May not initiate. Receives and enters physicians’ orders as appropriate. Contributes to the development, implementation, and continuing evaluation of the patient care plan. Identifies, records, and reports any change in patient condition or adverse reaction to treatment and/or medication to the RN and/or physician. Documents care in patient’s record. Responds to medical emergencies, initiates CPR or appropriate action, and notifies appropriate personnel. Orders patient supplies. Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.

Completion of a vocational school LPN program.LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:
Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse as approved by the Tennessee Board of Nursing for practice in the state of Tennessee.BLS certification must be obtained within the orientation period, and certification must be kept current while in this position.Special certifications may be required at the department’s discretion.EXPERIENCE:
Proficiency in pharmacology and documentation and the ability to demonstrate nursing skills according to current hospital and nursing policies and procedures as normally acquired through the successful completion of documentation class, pharmacology exam, and skills exam.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
