The Montefiore Licensed Practice Nurse contributes standards of the practice for nursing as defined by the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics, Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice and Nursings Social Policy Statement. The Licensed Practical Nurse actualizes the vision, mission, values, balanced score card performance measures for Montefiore Medical Center. The LPN participates in performance improvement/research activities; maintains professional practice, standards and clinical expertise; and demonstrates leadership skills. The LPN demonstrates core and unit specific competencies based on the patient population served. He/she is committed to maintaining the standards of the practice of nursing and is responsible for the delivery of care to the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and/or elderly patient within their scope of practice. He/she participates in performance improvement, research activities and maintains clinical expertise.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides direct care for a population specific patient assignment reflective of current and changing status of patient. 

Provide patient/family teaching and discharge instructions to meet learning/discharged needs as identified by RN.
Able to set priorities, problem solve and use proper judgment in difficult situations and be flexible in non-emergent situations.

Provides and maintains safe environment for patients/families through preventive and interventional measures.

Documents direct patient care as per MMC policies and procedures.

Participates, practices and promotes continuous quality improvement.

Communicates effectively with patients/families and members of the health care team.

Responsible and accountable for own practice.

Responsible for maintenance of Customer Service.

Other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma/GED

Minimum 1 year work experience

New York State License for Practical Nurse and current registration to practice as an LPN in New York State.

Basic Life Support certification.
Effective English communication skills, written, oral and interpersonal.
Ability to use basic data entry and retrieval system.
Additional education required by specialty areas/patient care locations. 

Use of patient care equipment as authorized by scope of practice.
Use of electronic clinical information system .
