The LPN-Clinic is responsible for performing a wide variety of nursing and patient care activities and accommodative services for the comfort and well-being of patients in accordance with physicians' orders and under the guidance and direction of the Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

The LPN - Clinic reports to the Nurse Manager or designee and does not supervise anyone.

 

MAJOR ACTIVITIES:

 

Performs basic nursing care and patient procedures as required.

 

Participate in conferences and serves on Committees as requested.

 

Observes, reports, and documents in the patient's chart changes in patient's condition, records observation made, and nursing care performed.

 

Participates in patient and family health education as necessary.

 

Prepares for and assists with diagnostic and therapeutic treatments.

 

May administer I.V. procedures in accordance with state Nurse Practice Act.

 

Takes and records vital signs, height and weight.

 

Performs catheterizations and provides catheter care.

 

Administers oral and intra-muscular medications.

 

Cares for patients receiving oxygen therapy.

 

Applies sterile and unsterile compresses and bandages.

 

Tests urine for sugar, acetone, and ph, and microscopic urinalysis.

 

Assists with physical and vaginal examinations and obtaining pap smears.

 

Markets clinic services at times deemed appropriate by management.

 

Applies ace bandages, hot water bottle, and ice cap.

 

Collects specimens, blood, urine, stool and sputum. May do venipunctures and EKG's as needed.

 

Administers enemas: retention, cleansing, therapeutic, colonic, irrigation.

 

Maintains cleanliness, safety and efficiency in clinic.

 

Alert to and able to respond appropriately in an emergency situation.

 

Assists with the care of the patients' valuables.

 

Prepares used equipment for re-sterilization.

 

Screens patients as to seriousness of condition.

 

Gives emergency treatment in cases of shock/cardiac arrest in absence of the physician.

 

Knows legal requirements for reporting to police, health department, and other agencies and follows requirements.

 

Checks special equipment, such as autoclave and centrifuge and must be able to properly operate.

 

Accompanies or transfers patients to other departments such as clinic lab and x-ray.

 

Cleans and stocks examination rooms.

 

Manages time in order to expedite patient flow.

 

Assists with minor out-patient surgery.

 

Assists with cast application and removal.

 

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.

 

Must maintain current licensure in state of practice.

 

Technical skills in a clinical field preferred.

 

Must successfully complete the I.V. Therapy Course.

 

Must be organized and function well under stressful conditions.

 

Six (6) months to one (1) year on-the-job training is required to attain proficiency of assigned duties.
