Licensed Practice Nurse (LPN) MD Office – Internal Medicine

Located on the 5th floor of Akron General’s Ambulatory Care Center, the Internal
Medicine Center of Akron (IMCA) provides primary care services to adults ages 18 and above. Caregivers on this team are trained in women’s health, mental health and substance abuse care and treat common ear, skin, eye, nervous system or reproductive problems. IMCA is also home to Akron General’s Internal Medicine Residency Program.
A caregiver in this position works 8:00am – 4:30pm or 8:30am—5:00pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, physician, optometrist and/or podiatrist, perform patient care activities and complete required documentation for patients of all ages.
Collect and document objective and subjective data and observations about the patient.
Contribute observations and health information to the nursing assessment and report all data to the RN or authorized directing health care provider.
Implement the current plan of nursing care at the direction of the RN, or the medication or treatment authorized by the authorized directing health care provider.
Document and verbally communicate the patient’s response to the nursing plan of care, or the medication or treatment including observing patients for adverse reactions to medications or treatments and performing routine laboratory tests.
Contribute to the revision of the nursing plan of care
Provide education and information to patients and family members.
Maintain professional growth and development within nursing field.
Participate in the departmental orientation of new caregivers in a positive manner, share knowledge and experiences, and provide guidance when assigned.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate of an approved school of practical nursing.
Current Ohio license as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
One year of patient care experience.

Physical Requirements:
Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good hand-eye coordination, involves extensive standing walking and occasional lifting.
Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.
Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
