Qualifications:
Graduation from a State Board of Nursing approved LPN/LVN training program or completion of equivalent military training that permits sitting for the State licensure examination.Certification in Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support (ALS)Shall have practiced as a Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse (LVN) performing hands-on patient care in the outpatient clinical setting for at least 12 months within the past 24 months. Experience performing care and treatment of patients; operating and maintaining therapeutic equipment; properly administering oral and parenteral medications; conducting paraprofessional portions of physical examinations; or assisting in medical treatment of patients in accordance with established procedures and protocols, within the LVN scope of practiceCurrent, full, active and unrestricted license as a practical or vocational nurse. Must have understanding of and ability to correctly utilize and/or apply; medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, psychology, pharmacology, medical ethics and legal concepts, clinical procedures, patient care; emergency medical treatment to include cardiopulmonary resuscitation, aseptic technique, specimen collection, diagnostic testing, prepare and administer oral and parenteral (excluding IV) medications, vaccination procedures, mechanisms of anaphylaxis and shock and their treatment; computer operations in the use of basic word processing, data entry and automated medical records.Responsibilities:
Initiate, perform and complete assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations. Complete assigned patient care based on the patients’ conditions, use judgment in selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments, and accurately recognize, report and record relevant patient information. Observe, identify and respond to the patient’s needs for care, including medication, equipment-assisted care and patient/family education. Prepare and administer prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular and/or intravenous) and perform treatments according to established policies/procedures. Recognize urgent or emergent patient care situations, seek assistance of the RN and/or MD/DO, and initiate appropriate emergency interventions as directed. Perform support duties for complex diagnostic tests and/or specialized practices or procedures, which include preparing the patient, assisting in the diagnostic examination, preparing and handling specialized instruments or other specialized equipment, and monitoring the patient’s condition before, during, and following the procedure. Orient peers and ancillary personnel to unit policies and procedures, skills, and standards of practice. Integrate healthy work environment principles that result in improved patient healthcare delivery, education of patients and their families and employee satisfaction. In addition to the education, certification and experience listed in the basic contract and the position description, Travis AFB, Flight & Operational Medicine Clinic will be trained on additional computer operating systems (as applicable) for completion of mission accomplishment, i.e. AIMWTS, PEPP, and ASIMS. Must have understanding of and ability to correctly utilize and/or apply; medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, psychology, pharmacology, medical ethics and legal concepts, clinical procedures, patient care; emergency medical treatment to include cardiopulmonary resuscitation, aseptic technique, specimen collection, diagnostic testing, prepare and administer oral and parenteral (excluding IV) medications, vaccination procedures, mechanisms of anaphylaxis and shock and their treatment; prescription drugs and their administration; operating and maintaining therapeutic equipment, risk management, medical contingency operations, computer operations in the use of basic word processing, data entry and automated medical records. Assists with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed. Performs appropriate portions of medical examinations, treatment, diagnostic, and clinical procedures. Performs appropriate portions of physical examinations including age appropriate physical measurements. Performs medical records reviews and applies appropriate protocols and guidelines to determine medical needs. Maintains patient medical records in electronic format as well as hard copy as required
