Now hiring for LPN-Mental Health at Bay Correctional Facility 

Position Summary: 

Reports administratively to the director of nursing (DON) Responsible for providing nursing care and assistance for ill and/or injured inmates. All decisions should be reviewed with the RN on duty with the exception of routine duties assigned to the nurse (LPN) in compliance Florida Board if Nursing, American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, MTC Medical, and Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC) directives. 

Essential Functions: 

1. Schedule, arrange and facilitate tele-psychiatric visits between inmates and provider/psychiatric staff. 

2. Observe inmate tele-psychiatric visits. 

3. Document notes of the sessions as needed/directed. 

4. Communicate additional needs to the medical department as directed by the provider/psychiatric staff. 

5. Operate pill call, provide med pass, distribute medication and document as required by applicable policies and procedures in designated location(s). 

6. Control medications, syringes and other medical supplies or equipment as required. 

7. Under direction of the RN on duty and in accordance with approved standing orders, obtain initial health information and assist with treatment of inmates reporting to sick call. Refer inmates to providers when appropriate. 

8. Assist with provider line; prepare examining room and equipment. 

9. Perform procedures as needed and call physician for treatment orders when necessary. 

10. Keep equipment and work area clean; utilize appropriate sanitation methods. 

11. Practice basic cost containment and utilization management for patient care and facility operations. 

12. Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records; observe applicable HIPAA rules. 

13. Closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses. 

14. Comply with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances in accordance with standards and/or policy. 

15. Provide health counseling and health education on an individual or group basis, as required. 

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education and Experience Requirements: 

Graduation from a Licensed Practical Nurse program and licensure as a practical nurse in the state of Florida. At least one (1) year of mental health experience. This experience may be obtained in a variety of professional settings. Valid driver’s license in the state of Florida with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management. 

 

Post Hire Requirements: 

Must attain and maintain appropriate facility security clearance. Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements.
