LPN/Operating Room Scheduler Hornell, NY (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=7329+Seneca+Rd+North+Hornell+NY+USA+14843) Description Job Summary: The LPN/Operating Room Scheduler provides support functions to the Operating Room under the direct supervision of the Director of Perioperative Services. These support services include, but not limited to; budget and expense monitoring, patient scheduling and staff scheduling. Job Results & Essential Function + Schedules patients for surgery + Fulfills the responsibilities associated with patient scheduling including OR, PT and Chronic Disease management + Completes necessary pre authorization processes + Coordinates operating rooms, schedules of surgeons, and assistants needed for the procedures + Gathering and recording financial and insurance information + Distributes pre and post-operative information to patients + Extracts patient demographic data from surgical information sheets and inputs into operating room information system + Obtains preliminary operating room scheduling information from clinical and surgical services and enters into scheduling system according to the system coding requirements + Monitors tentative schedules for missing services appointments and discrepancies in type of room and equipment assigned for specific procedure and contacts appropriate service to confirm or resolve + Works with management to make any monthly adjustments to the schedule and communicates changes to surgeon’s offices and others, as appropriate + Determines the order in which the patients are scheduled, by reviewing procedures, time needed, and size of operating room available and schedules inpatients in accordance with OR Committee guidelines + Post add-on cases and emergency cases to scheduling system as required; reviews wait list and schedules cases as rooms become available + Prints preliminary and final schedules for operating rooms on a daily basis, forwards final schedules, and makes copies and distributes as appropriate + Adjust operating room schedule according to written guidelines and communicates changes to surgeons and department director and other as appropriate + Communicates the need for special instruments, supplies and equipment to nursing/OR personnel + Uses computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments + Accesses protected health information (PHI) in accordance with departmental assignments and guidelines defining levels of access + May perform other tasks as needed Requirements Education & Experience + High School Diploma required, Associate Degree in Computer Support preferred. Experience with Staffing, Scheduling and Office Management Preferred. Medical Terminology and computer proficiency required. + Graduate of an approved School of Practical Nursing with a permit or license (LPN) to practice in New York State is preferred. Licenses and/or Certifications + N/A Physical Demands Intermittent Sitting, Standing, and Walking. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Ability to adapt and be flexible enough to adjust work schedule to meet the needs of the organization. Language Ability Ability to read, write and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to analyze, and interpret data. Receives and responds to inquiries or complaints from customers in a professional manner. Ability to effectively present information to colleagues. Math Ability Ability to add, subtracts, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to calculate figures, and amounts such as proportions, percentages, rates and ratios. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems, and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Working Conditions Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Handles emergency or crisis situations. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours. Minimal contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Potential exposure to chemicals and communicable diseases and related medical waste.
