LPTA/Physical Therapy Assistant - Physical, Occupational, Speech - Full Time - Days

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Therapist assistant will report to manager, will have clinical oversight from licensed therapist and will not have any direct reports.  Therapist assistant may supervise student completing observation or clinical affiliation hours.

POSITION SUMMARY

Administers various physical therapy programs under guidelines established by a Licensed Physical Therapist to facilitate rehabilitation of physically disabled patients, to maximize function and independence.  Directs patient participation in selected tasks to restore, reinforce and enhance performance; facilitates the learning of those skills and functions essential for adaptations and productivity

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Provides physical therapy treatments, following established plans, under supervision of a physical therapist, taking into account age and educational level, while accurately assessing patient’s response to treatment, as measured by clinical competencies. Can assist therapist in selective measurements, without interpretation, for evaluation Prepares and maintains accurate patient care records under supervision of therapist Maintains clean and safe work environment to comply with hospital and department safety standards Demonstrates professional work behavior, participates in continuing education and shares information with staff Demonstrates knowledge and ability to advocate, communicate and educate patients of all age groups served including those with physical, emotional, language and cognitive impairments, taking into account age and educational level, as measured by competencies Demonstrates knowledge and skill to utilize equipment appropriately, using correct sizes and following recommendations on specific age-related criteria such as height, weight, anatomical differences, and general health status of various age groups served, as measured by clinical competencies Maintains productivity as established by the department May assist in the supervision of students, rehabilitation aides and volunteers May participate in program development, identifying performance improvement opportunities, and implementing performance improvement plans Performs other duties as directed
