Machine Adjuster

ROL    The role of the Adjustors at the Buena Park Bag Plant is to assure proper operation and adjustment of all equipment and to meet production requirements. The Adjustors will maintain the production line and direct the actions of his/her appropriate operations personnel as it relates to their jobs and perform any other duties as assigned by a Supervisor or Shift Lead. This position contributes to the organization as follows:

Sets the standard for behavior and performance for site operations. Adjusts and troubleshoots bag-making equipment as to maintain safe and efficient operation.  Assists site management in developing skills and knowledge base of the organization’s most critical asset; people

CORE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safely assist Bag machine operations as needed within the scope of job function. The primary function of all at Grand Prairie bag is to safely produce high quality low cost paper bags, and all job functions are to assist in this process. Insure safety is at the forefront of everything you do and always serve as the role model for all personnel. Help insure that all are properly trained within their positions to safely and successfully do their jobs. Insure the product made is done so with high regard to safety, quality, efficiency, waste reduction and cost optimization. Monitor team performance against stated goals. When someone hits a production goal let them know they did a good job. Identify and provide instruction to new and current employees about specific job skills required to perform their duties. Machines are properly adjusted Machines are being operated efficiently and running at posted speeds Machine lubrication is completed as scheduled Machines are in good operating condition and defective or worn parts are replaced as needed and assist in machine rebuilds. Give breaks to your designated machines. Help with roll changes. Give direction to operators when their machine is down.

                                    Additionally your duties include seeing that --- all work performed and the finished product is of the highest quality possible, And to assist in accomplishing this with the least amount of wasted effort and materials.

 

EXPECTATIONS:

 

SAFETY:

Required PPE is properly worn at all times Never reach into a running machine You are to help maintain a safe manufacturing operation. The goal for Safety is 0 recordable injuries. Model safety on and off the floor. Confront all unsafe acts and conditions, and have the courage to intervene. All injuries, Incidents and close calls will be reported and investigated by the person’s supervisor. Insure you and all employees are using appropriate LOTT procedures including the MSK alternate secure process.

PEOPLE:

As Adjustors you are looked upon as leaders, so lead by example. You are closely monitored by your peers and they will follow your lead in both good and bad behaviors so you have to be on best behavior at all times.  

QUALITY:

Insure bag minimum bag inspection requirements are met during the manufacturing process. Insure off quality product is reported to Supervisor. You are equally accountable for off quality products. Monitor that products meet customer specifications across the entire             

                                        Production line.

 Insure all printed bags have a signed sample bag at the machine for

                                         Employees to use for verifying product quality.

 

HOUSEKEEPING:

Establish a “clean as you go” attitude. As an Adjustor it’s your role to set a good example with housekeeping it’s everyone’s job to keep the plant clean. Insure the equipment is thoroughly cleaned after every shift.

                        a. Equipment is blown down.

                        b. Floors are blown down.

                        c. Trash cans are emptied.

                        d. Floors are swept up.

                        e. Instill a “nothing on the floor” attitude.

                       f. Ink spills and paste spills are cleaned up.

                      g. Insure plant is acceptable for incoming shift.

Assist and provide guidance to plant personnel in making sure the plant shutdown is properly completed. 

              

PRODUCTIVITY:

            The following is a general outline of the functions of an adjustor:

Be aware of both – print changes and paper changes. Sign off on a sample bag on all print changes for your machine.  Have a supervisor sign off on new prints. Assist in set-up of prints as needed --- to customer specifications. Fabricate and Maintain a supply of your assigned machine parts --- score fingers, drum-fingers, tucker blades, etc., in designated parts bin. Maintain a personal toolbox with the tools needed to make yourself more efficient at your job. Coordinate your efforts with those of all co-workers to keep the production line running as smoothly as possible. If you are working on a machine for a significant amount of time, send your operator/tender to a backup machine.  Don’t let them do nothing that’s not productive. Assist in the training of Adjustor trainees, Operators, Tenders, Utility and Balers Make sure that print changes are signed off when completed, used print plates are returned, extra ink is returned to storage area and the machine line is cleaned up before the end of each shift. Your assigned machines are your primary area of responsibility, but, not your only area of responsibility. The expectation is for every adjustor to respond to any machine with a light on to assist in the diagnosis and repair, getting the machine back up and running as efficiently as possible.
