Machine Operator II - 4th shift (Hydride & Q Plant)

(Saturday/Sunday 7:00am-7:00pm & Thursday/Friday 6:00am-2:30pm)

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Supervisor, incumbent sets up and operates all equipment associated with the Melt Shop, including the Q Plant, Electron Beam Furnace, ARC/ALD Furnaces, Lathes and Forge. The incumbent may be required to operate any Melt Shop equipment that supports the manufacture of Ta and Niobium ingots.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

Sets up and operates the Hydride and Dehydride Furnaces and Q Plant equipment as required to support the conversion of Ta solids into Ta powderSets up and operates the Electron Beam Furnace including the operation of the vacuum pumping system and cooling water systems.Sets up and runs manual lathes in the Melt ShopSets up and runs multiple saws used to cut Ta and Nb.Sets up and operates the GCA and AC furnaces to prepare feedstock materials prior to melting.Performs troubleshooting and routine preventative maintenance tasks on production equipment.Performs sampling and Brinell hardness testing on the ingots as needed.Follows prescribed safety rules and regulations and standard operating procedures to ensure personal safety and high product qualityMaintains work area in a clean, safe and orderly condition on a daily basis by following 6S Standard Work practicesEnter material movements in SAP, completes all associated quality control paperwork and lot traceability paperwork to assure product is clearly tested and identifiedCross train in other process areas as time permits

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

Requires a high school or vocational degree or equivalent.Four years of industrial experience and three years vacuum melting experience. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude. Must know how to operate vacuum pumps. Requires Confined Space Entry certification, lockout/tagout certification and fork truck license. Must adhere to strict environmental and safety rules and identify areas for improvement.Expected to work as part of a team, to make good decisions, to anticipate production problems, and to resolve them with some assistance.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT

Position requires direct contact on the manufacturing floor and requires ambulation Work time is spent in a factory environment where temperatures fluctuate Position requires personal protective equipment.
