Machine Shop Lead (Direct Placement for Client) Sigma Design has collaborated with a heavy industrial fabrication and machine shop seeking an experienced Fabricator to join their facility in Portland, OR. This company is one of the largest machine shops on the west coast. Their products are used in a variety of industries, including mining, steel mills, power generation, cement, pulp, and paper. Prorated upon hire. + Monday – Thursday, 6:00 am – 4:30 pm + $44.00 - $54.00 an hour, DOE Primary Function: The Machine Shop Lead is responsible for following safety protocols, ensuring proper PPE usage, and interpreting blueprints, weld symbols, and procedures to fabricate parts. They prepare, fit, and weld assemblies, perform inspections, and troubleshoot fit-up issues to ensure dimensional accuracy and quality. Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities: + Manage the safety and efficiency of Manual and CNC Machinists in a heavy industrial shop environment. + Oversee all machine shop process including but not limiting to Turning, Milling, Drilling, Reaming, Boring, Slotting, and some non-structural welding. + Ensure all safety procedures are followed, and the proper PPE is in place. + Instruct machinists on rigging, moving, setup, procedures, and processes. + Monitor quantity, condition, and supply shop tooling. + Verify dimensional accuracy of critical features. + Train and supervise Manual and CNC Machinists. + Troubleshoot and resolve CNC programming issues. + Manage and maintain machine shop production schedule.  Ensuring timely completion of projects while maximizing machine utilization. + Evaluate and review employee performance. + Must be willing and able to run machines when needed. Education and Experience: (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities) + High School Diploma or equivalent required + Minimum of 7+ years of combined experience as a Machinist/Machinist Manager. + Deep knowledge of all machining processes and use of manual as well as CNC machinery. + Must have good attitude, attendance, and be able to promote a positive culture that is focused on safety and efficiency. + Must have an extensive knowledge of rigging and the use of overhead cranes and forklifts. + Expert understanding of blueprints, manufacturing processes, and GD&T. + Expert understanding of metrology and use of inspection tools. + Available to work weekends and overtime. + Capable of standing for extended periods of time. + Background and drug screen - pass a post-offer background verification and drug screen. Work Environment Standard machine shop environment with various types of machinery. Appropriate safety garments (PPE) must be worn.
