Machine Technician

Job Description

Under direct supervision, it serves as the primary maintenance resource for packaging production operations. Contributes to ensuring safe working practices are followed and contributes ideas to simplify and standardize the workplace. Shares ownership in achieving world-class performance and continuous improvement of production. Accountable for helping to achieve strategies and goals of becoming the world-class, low-cost/high-quality producer of choice. 

Responsibilities

Operates line equipment to include orientation/training of production personnel on proper operation of production equipment and meeting all filling and assembly requirements related to primary and secondary packaging, including, but not limited to, sampling and testing of fill weights, coding, torque and any necessary functional tests such as proper seals, dispensing, etc. Responsible for Material Productivity, MTTR (Mean Time To Repair), MTBF (Mean Time Before Failure), OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), and meeting all defined production/quality standards. Company KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) include but are not limited to safety, quality, cost, and service. Performs set-up, sanitization verification, daily start-up, tuning, and repair of packaging machinery in accordance with production requirements to ensure proper operation of machinery and assists other Machine Technicians by performing changeovers. Follows safety precautions to prevent product contamination and injury to self and others. Performs and leads routine preventive maintenance for all packaging equipment to ensure packing equipment is performing at optimum levels. Monitors duties of production personnel. Leads and motivates teammates, including temporary personnel, applying Company leadership principles to ensure production quality and safety standards are met in accordance with MK Policies and Standard Operation Procedures. Maintains workplace organization and cleanliness practices. Evaluates the quality and assists in troubleshooting operational issues. Follows a defined trigger-point system to ensure the appropriate level of urgency is communicated to management concerning production issues. Interacts with Package Engineering, Scheduling, QA/QC Labs, Inventory Control, Engineering Support, Packaging, and Warehouse personnel to expedite solutions to problems. Conducts root cause analysis during troubleshooting activities using proven scientific methods to analyze the issue, define the solution, instate countermeasures to ensure resolution, and set controls for monitoring; documents accordingly. Improves production performance by simplifying work processes according to a defined scope and span of control. This may include creating One-point lessons for knowledge enhancement and skill development. With engineering approval, simple machine parts can be made or modified using machine tools and precision manual instruments. Provides direction to and assists other Machine Technician staff in disassembly, sanitation, and reassembly of packaging machinery as necessary. Work Hours - 8 hrs/day - Monday - Friday (40 hrs/week)
Work schedule - 6:00 AM - 2.30 PM

Experience: 3+ years
Field of Experience: Production Maintenance Manufacturing

Education:  High School diploma or equivalent

Skills & Abilities

Experience in a production maintenance shop of a manufacturing facility, as demonstrated by passing written technical knowledge and mechanical aptitude tests. Must demonstrate competencies established for this level, including use of hand and power tools, ability to use maintenance manuals, and knowledge of basic electrical and pneumatic equipment. Must be able to work effectively in a team environment. Required to actively participate in and constructively contribute to team meetings and related discussions or problem-solving. Must be able to inspect component parts for compliance with quality standards visually, check day codes and other required coding, check product labeling, and match the product with the appropriate carton. Must be able to follow and demonstrate daily all safety rules and regulations as they apply to the production area. Must possess a thorough understanding of operational procedures in order to work with supervisors to develop and execute operational/technical training plans for production personnel. Must be able to stoop, crouch, kneel, and occasionally move up to 60 pounds in order to start up, repair, debug, changeover, tune, and maintain packaging machinery. Must have the manual dexterity to manipulate and assemble small objects and pieces of machinery. Shift or schedule change may be necessary due to changing business needs.
