About the Position: Work under the supervision of a Quality Control Supervisor who issues instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines, and relies on the Work Leader to assure that work assignments are carried out by other members of the group. Responsibilities Pass on to other workers instructions received from Quality Control, and start work (e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led). Ensure that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations. Perform complex final and in-process inspections of large caliber weapon components, assemblies, castings and forgings, and final acceptance on sub-assemblies and prototype weapon systems. Determine acceptability on critically designed products such as multi lug light weight breech mechanisms, experimental composite materials used in light-weight gun barrels, electromagnetic cannon and liquid propellant firing systems. Perform a variety of in-process examinations on precision critical dimensions to determine applicable method of completion. Provide training and guidance on digital gun books to the Quality Control Inspector. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Position may be filled as a time-limited promotion, reassignment or change to lower grade not to exceed (NTE) 1 year by a current permanent Army employee. Time-limited promotions may be extended up to a maximum of five years. Time-limited reassignments and changes to lower grade may exceed five years, however return rights may be impacted. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Machine Tool Work Inspector Leader without more than normal supervision. The work of this position normally includes the ability to supervise or lead Machine Tool Work Inspectors in a manufacturing environment; performing final and in process inspections; set work schedules and establish priorities; review employee's work in progress and upon completion; and plan work sequence to have work completed by deadlines. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Lead or Supervise Ability to Use Hand Tools for Machine Shop Ability to Use Shop Drawings Knowledge of Metals Measurement and Layout Operation of Machine Tools Physical Efforts: Work requires standing, stooping, bending, stretching and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Required to lift/carry items weighing up to 44 lbs. Mechanical lifting devices/other employees are available to assist with lift of 45 lbs. and over. Requires good vision to work to close tolerances. Working Conditions: Work is generally done inside in areas that are air conditioned, well lighted, heated, and ventilated or in machine shop areas. May work outside or in areas that are drafty, hot, poorly lighted, noisy, and dirty. Subject to grease, coolants, and possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
