Job Summary:
The Machining Specialist is responsible for ensuring the efficient, safe, and high-quality operation of the machining equipment during their assigned shift. This role requires strong technical troubleshooting skills, the ability to train new operators, and a commitment to driving operational excellence (OE) through data analysis and continuous improvement projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure the machine is operational at the beginning of each shift.Perform technical troubleshooting to minimize downtime and maintain efficiency.Train and mentor new trim operators on proper usage, safety, and maintenance of the equipment, and retrain or mentor long term trim operators as needed.Operate the machine as required to support production needs.Compile and analyze OE data to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.Lead and participate in ongoing projects to drive operational excellence.Ensure all finished products meet established quality standards by conducting routine checks and adhering to quality guidelines.Follow and enforce all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.Proactively identify and mitigate potential safety hazards. Report safety incidents or near-misses promptly.Participate in regular safety and quality training sessions to stay updated on best practices.Collaborate with quality assurance teams to resolve any quality issues and implement corrective actions.Maintain proper documentation of quality and safety checks for compliance and continuous improvement and communicate to appropriate personnel as needed.Identifying and mitigating potential safety hazards.Reporting incidents or near-misses.Participating in safety and quality training sessions.Collaborating with quality assurance teams for corrective actions.Maintain a safe and clean working environment, adhering to all company safety standards and protocols.Collaborate with maintenance teams to schedule preventive maintenance and address equipment issues.Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and other departments to ensure smooth workflow and production goals are met.Adhere to and ensure the completion of Preventative Maintenance (PM) schedules for all relevant equipment.Perform preventative maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubrication, blade changes, and minor repairs beyond standard checks.Implement and maintain 5S principles in the designated work area to promote organization, cleanliness, and safety.Work with various equipment and systems, including pneumatic cylinders, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), belt-driven motors, photoelectric sensors, and belt sanders.Monitor and optimize the operational efficiency of saw machinery on both shifts, ensuring consistent performance and minimal downtime. and this: at times you will be expected to work on days or night shift pending the need. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data tracking and analysis is preferred.Minimum of 2 years of experience operating large industrial manufacturing equipment.Experience with project management or participation in process improvement projects is a plus.Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to diagnose and resolve equipment issues.Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.Previous experience with large woodworking machinery a plusKnowledge of quality control procedures and safety regulations in a manufacturing environment is highly desirable.Strong interpersonal communication skills to build rapport with peers and foster a collaborative team culture.Ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.Working Conditions:
Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. with assistance, walking, standing, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, dexterity with hands must work at a fast pace and handle multiple parts that have glue on them for duration of the shift. Strong eye/hand coordination. Walking and standing for long continuous hours.Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, etc., if required.
