Purpose and role of job:

Set up and operate conventional, special purpose, and numerical control ( Nc ) machines to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. Applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials and layout techniques. Selects, aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and material on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders and shapers. Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut. Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specification, using precision measuring devices. May operate welding equipment to cut or weld parts and may develop specifications from general description and draw or sketch part to be fabricated.

Principal Accountabilities/ Responsibilities:

Set up and operate all machine shop equipment and attachments such as lathes, mills, grinders etc.Fabricate parts from Engineering and OEM Blue Prints.Prepare hand sketches of parts from machinery during emergency breakdowns and make the requested part.May be required to assemble parts previously made for projects, machine upgrades or emergency breakdowns.Responsible for verifying that the finished work piece conforms to and meets design specifications.Assist maintenance when machine parts need repaired or fabricated during emergency breakdowns.Along with his / her team members are required to keep their work area and machines clean and orderly.Along with his/her team members will be required to respond to emergency repair calls during off hours when shop is not staffed.Weld and cut with welding equipment when required.Attend all training seminars provided by the company where applicable.Must work well with others in a team atmosphere.Observe all safety and Lock Out/ Tag Out rules and use proper safety equipment at all times.Assist where needed when directed to do so.Follows necessary GMP, FDA and ISO regulations.

Education and experience requirements:

Must be proficient in set up and operation of all machine shop equipment.Ability to read and accurately work from blue prints.Strong overall knowledge of mechanic’s and machinery.Read precision measuring devices, shop mathematics and shop theories and procedures.Ability to work well with othersGood Communicator / Analytical thinker3 to 5 years experience in a machine shop.High School Diploma or equivalent.Vocational or Trade school certification in Machine shop practices.Completion of TPC Training Courses and Practical Assessments for Machinist I.
