Our Machinist is primarily responsible for applying proper troubleshooting, diagnostic and corrective steps in the repair of parts, components and systems within Caterpillar and allied products.

 

Pay: $21.52/hr. to $49.11/hr.

Job duties:

Fabricate, maintain and repair metal objects through the operation of lathes, shapers, planers, milling machines, drill presses, hydraulic presses and similar equipmentMeasure work carefully by using precision tools such as a micrometerPerform milling and lathe work on equipment such as pumps, valves, pistons, shafts or other equipmentCalculate and set controls to regulate machining, or enter commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control mediaSelect, align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials onto machinesMeasure, examine and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specificationsTravel is required for training and/or to assist at other locations.

Able to solve practical problems and offer innovative solutions to unique problemsGeneral knowledge of basic hand tools, air tools, precision measuring tools and instruments, diagnostic software, cranes and rigging equipmentAbility to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule formBasic mechanical knowledge including electrical and hydraulicsMust be able to read and comprehend specifications, service and parts literature, technical bulletins and other related publications

What will put you ahead:

Familiarity with machining equipment and various shop hand and electric toolsManual lathe and milling experience Stable work historyOne year of experience as a skilled machinist and completion of a recognized machinist apprenticeship program, or three years of experience as a skilled machinist
