Summary You will serve as a MACHINIST in the MECHANICAL SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will perform precision hand work to match or finish parts by chipping, filing, scraping, hand reaming, hand tapping, grinding, lapping, and polishing. You will set up appropriate machine and related equipment, such as: dividing heads, taper attachments, jigs, fixtures, and gearing to perform desired operations. You will assemble parts using arbor press or by shrinking. You will operate machine, controlling speed and and feed, bringing various tools to bear in successive operations, and making various test cuts, roughing cuts, and finishing cuts as necessary.
